What's the difference between an Open Show and a

Championship Show, and are there any other types :)

at champ shows you compete for challenge certificates if you get 3 of these under 3 different judges your dog becomes a champion also if you are placed 1st 2nd or 3rd you qualify for crufts

at open shows there are no cc's but best in show and best puppy in show can qualify for crufts

there are also breed club shows only for whippets which have open and champ shows throughout the year if i have missed anything im sure someone else will be able to help

Only in certain classes and if the breed is in Band E!!

There are Premier open shows where Best of Breeds also qualify for Crufts

There are Limited shows where entries are limited to members of the club holding the show. These can be general or breed societies

sorry yes you are quiet right i knew ann was talking about whippets though sorry

There are also companion shows which is usually a small show which a lot of people treat as a fun day out. You just enter on the day. There you usually have classes for cross breeds and novelty classes such as 'prettiest bitch' handsomest dog'. There are also pedigree classes such as AV hound, AV gundog etc..

There is also members limited shows which is larger than a companion show but usually smaller than an open show. At limited shows any wins do not count towards points for a junior warrant or a show certificate of merit. Where as open show wins do. Correct me if im wrong but i think im right in saying no CC winners can enter this type of show?

Marie.

Thats quite correct Marie

Thats where most of us `oldies `learned our craft and started our showing careers , I just popped along to one on a Sunday with my racing Greyhound Jemma , hadnt a clue what to do and with the help of the kind judge ( who showed me how to move her :b ) We won Best Sporting :D and as they say , the rest is history .

I didnt see the judge for many years after that , and guess what she was showing , Yep a whippet  . I thanked her for starting me off , and costing me lot of money  , but also for all the pleasure I had ahd and all the friends I had made along the way

Its very different now , as most newcomers seem to want to start at Championship shows

Very true Jax, 29 years ago tomorrow i had a whippet for my birthday, i went to the local exemption show as it was then, and won the junior handling class !!! The rest as Jax said is history,

Thanks for asking this question. It's something I was going to ask shortly too for some clarification because I'm a show noob! Great replies too, thanks

There is also ahuge difference in the price you pay to enter

Companion show £1-£2

Open shows £3.50 _ £6.00

Championship Show £20-£24

Although breed championship shows are usually around £10

I also got bitten by the showing bug at a companion show. I went into prettiest bitch with Tara 3 and a half years ago and she won. Then, i didnt have a clue how to find out about shows and didnt do anything about it and was going to wait for that show to come round the following year - just about 2 months before that show came round i stumbled upon ringcraft - started filling out the forms and iv never looked back since.

I enjoyed the companion shows last summer with Sada and

Kaya. The girls won a couple of rosettes, snip and stitch, dog

the judge would most like to take home

But i think id like to take it a step further with Zana, thats why

i've been asking about the different shows and things.

Although it will be fun taking the three of them out for the day to

the companion shows when the weather is nice.
