just out of interest whats your veiw on the top ten is it worth it or not

i think its worth it i mean 2 win the top ten is a great achievement even to gain a place in the top ten is a fab achievement maybe there shudnt be as many top ten opens and maybe the bends and straights shud b separate top ten event or even make it a top 5 make it harder maybe i dont know as its pretty hard now. imo i deffo think bends and straights shud b separate as some dogs dont do both JMO

I THINK ITS GREAT AND THINK IT SHOULD BE BENDS AND STRAIGHT THE BEST DOGS RUN BOTH  TO NAME A FEW INSHALLAH MOCHARA MAID YOURE POINT TINKERSMILL PICK POCKET :D

it used to be a great achievment to win the top-ten ,or even get in it, but IMO not any more ,i think it's down to who can afford to travle to all the opens and where abouts in the country you live, nowadays it's not nesseserally the the best dog that wins the the top-ten again it's my opinion.

Totally agree, how could the likes of us living so far down in the west ever manage to get to all the events for points when Highgate alone is a 700 mile round trip for us. :(

yeah i agree john i mean theres some brill dogs in scotland ie insane jane, sugar rush but i dont think any of them r in the top ten. regardless of where u live like u still have to have a dog that wins to gain points so thats a hard one. i know something i wudnt like alisons job of doing the points 4 the top ten. just wondering those who dont think bends and straights shud b separate do they have a dog that does both? just curious. there r some dogs that just do bends as well as all the dogs that just do straights. i know its only top 25 appearances count though

We have dogs we could travel to every open in the calendar with and never get in the top ten, at the end of the day, your dog needs to have the ability to win finals to be picking up points thus you'll never see a rubbing rag win the top ten.

Admitedly you pick up a hefty diesel bill at the end of the year, but don't you anyway?

Cara proved they don't have to be hammered to win; she only ran in 14 straight events & 5 bends, we aimed for the biggies and she was good enough & lucky enough to win maximum points at a lot of the events she ran in. I can hand on heart say that there was only one open we ran in "for the points" and that was the back end of the year, to be fair in hindsight she already had the top ten won by then and we needn't have bothered.

I do think it's still prestigious, at the end of the day you are only 1 of 37 dogs to have their name on that trophy!!!

I know what Carole's saying, some dogs dont run bends, but then there's bend dogs that 150/165yd is just too short for so imo it's swings & roundabouts and don't agree to any splits in the top ten.

this is a great subject, does anyone know how long the top ten has been going and also has any scottish dogs won or any from extreme south? wud b intersting to c the percentage of dogs from where etc had won and whether they ran both bends and straights. who invented the top ten another interesting question. im off to hozzy soon hopefully some of my questions will b answered.

THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE EXTRA SPECIAL TO WIN FROM THE SOUTH THERE IS SO MUCH TRAVILING IT MUST TAKE IT OUT OF THE DOGS

ME MATES BITCH ROBBIE POOLE AND HIS WIFE THAN SUE WAS THE FIRST FROM THE SOUTH WITH SOFT TOUCH :

Friggsy when you say they were the first from the south, how far south were they please?? ;) some people on here don't realise just how far down we are, nearly two hours before we even hit the motorway., I've only got one dog to run not like others on here who might have up to 8/10 dogs to pick and choose there races so i think we haven't done too bad this year travelling.

We have NO bends tracks to practise on and if it wasn't for the kindness of Helston whippet club we wouldn't even be able to school our dogs from traps, (many thanks to Helston)

You can't win the top ten points in any event unless you can afford to put the miles in, the time, and a bloody large bank balance, not forgetting what it does to your health sleeping in a van on cold, frosty nights, just ask Steve :( a very good subject, but some people need to wake up and smell the coffee.

A dog that's lives the lower side of the Tamar bridge will never win the top ten.
