Commercial Dog Food Vs Raw Food

My dogs are fed raw veg/meat in the morning and kibble in the evening, raw bones on the weekend. There are 4 of them - 6, 10, 11 and 12. Nothing much wrong with any of them other than a dodgy toe or two and the 10 year old in for a teeth cleaning/extraction. I don't think what they are fed...

    kickboards

Judging from the pictures, traps that don't open at the same speed look to be a bigger problem than the use or lack of kickboards. Is that normal or just a bad shot? Louanne

    Condition

You can't fight genetics! I have one little show/coursing bred whippet among the three racebreds and although the little un exercises more and harder than the racebreds, he will never get the muscle they have, it's just not in him to make it. If they're alert, bright eyed and fit they're...

    Need Some Advice Please

If my children warn off a boy toy of mine when I'm 70, I'll be sending their inheritence to the old cats home for their efforts! :) Seriously, glad it turned out alright for you and your mum. Louanne

    The Sun Newspaper

Agree she's a right horror but, how can you film that sort of attack for 13 minutes and not do anything to stop it? How much evidence did he need, and if he'd seen it before why didn't he just tell the guy who's dog it was not to let her walk the dog anymore? Seems to me the goal of the...

    Older Sighthounds Needing Homes

I agree wholeheartedly, as my group reach 9, 10 and 11 this year, life is pretty easy. Get an oldie from a rescue and reap the rewards without the first 6 years of chaos (I still have a youngster turning five this year to stir it up a bit). Louanne

    Balls

Split them into black in one bucket and white in the other and have them pick from the bucket of black ones - 100% odds they'll get it right. Louanne

    Stud Dogs

"More bully" I understand is genetically an impossibility. They are or they aren't. I know there are differences in how it expresses itself (more or less extreme) but the dog is affected or it is not. The concern if we keep breeding for the "faster" carriers is we are eventually going to get...

    Stud Dogs

My understanding is it really is a pretty simple solution. Test and then breed carriers to non-carriers. There's generally non-carriers available out of litters with carriers, so I'm not sure how it would affect the depth of the gene pool. My experience is with North American race breds...

    Stud Dogs

The test is available to detect whether the dog carries the myostatin mutation. If you never breed carrier to carrier, you should never get a bully. No throwing the baby out with the bathwater and no bullies. Louanne

    Jacket Fiasco - 2nd Championships 2008

Don't suppose there was a camera on the line? We sometimes use them here in North America but not all the time. They are good for sorting this sort of thing out. A quick review will tell you which dog is wearing what jacket and what order they came across.

Violet Is Doing Well After Her Nasty Injury

Whatever caused that, we have one too. Our guy managed a very similar looking wound just going out for a morning pee. He healed up well, but he's a brindle so it's not so noticeable. Louanne

    New Mating

What's with the white flecks? Unusual markings or stood too close to the tub when the bleach was out?

    How Far Do You Go???

In North America - one racing association bans calling/yelling for your dog, the other does not. I don't think it makes a bean of difference to the dog but I do think it makes a difference to the safety factor. If our lure man can't hear above the racket how's he going to hear when someone...

Whippet Puppy For Sale 6 Weeks Old

I have read that if you're planning on doing something with the pup (ie working dogs) the best time to get them is 42 to 54 days. It has to do with getting them when they are between "fear phases". Many of the the seeing eye dog organizations place pups at 7 weeks (49 days). Like anything...

New Puppy..... Keeping Him Outdoors...i Think?

I envision you and new pup out in the kennel all snuggled in, Amber in the house in your spot on the bed. He'll likely fuss a bit no matter where he is. I agree with starting him where you want him to end up and put up with the whinging only once. Louanne

    Hillsdown Whippets

That's what the whippet archives has. They do not have, that I could find, a dog name Hillsdown Siobhan. They did have offspring from Oakbark Middleman X H. Riosin listed, none of which were H. Siobhan. Then they had a H. Siobeal (Oakbark Middleman X Siobhan of Hillsdown). Numbers are much...
