My dogs are fed raw veg/meat in the morning and kibble in the evening, raw bones on the weekend. There are 4 of them - 6, 10, 11 and 12. Nothing much wrong with any of them other than a dodgy toe or two and the 10 year old in for a teeth cleaning/extraction.

Judging from the pictures, traps that don't open at the same speed look to be a bigger problem than the use or lack of kickboards. Is that normal or just a bad shot?

I agree wholeheartedly, as my group reach 9, 10 and 11 this year, life is pretty easy. Get an oldie from a rescue and reap the rewards without the first 6 years of chaos (I still have a youngster turning five this year to stir it up a bit).

"More bully" I understand is genetically an impossibility. They are or they aren't. I know there are differences in how it expresses itself (more or less extreme) but the dog is affected or it is not.

My understanding is it really is a pretty simple solution. Test and then breed carriers to non-carriers. There's generally non-carriers available out of litters with carriers, so I'm not sure how it would affect the depth of the gene pool.

The test is available to detect whether the dog carries the myostatin mutation. If you never breed carrier to carrier, you should never get a bully. No throwing the baby out with the bathwater and no bullies.

Don't suppose there was a camera on the line? We sometimes use them here in North America but not all the time. They are good for sorting this sort of thing out. A quick review will tell you which dog is wearing what jacket and what order they came across.
Whatever caused that, we have one too. Our guy managed a very similar looking wound just going out for a morning pee. He healed up well, but he's a brindle so it's not so noticeable.

I have read that if you're planning on doing something with the pup (ie working dogs) the best time to get them is 42 to 54 days. It has to do with getting them when they are between "fear phases". Many of the the seeing eye dog organizations place pups at 7 weeks (49 days).
