Sidney is behaving much better, thanks Kath. Millie, our whippet bitch, is the mental one. I worked out she was the main cause of the problems She is very hyper and nervous and is permanently attached to my leg and makes him skittish sometimes. I have learned to get her settled a bit better...
My trainer told me to sit down and make a tunnel with your legs and tempt the dog through your legs with a treat and out the other side. It worked after a couple of goes and theysoon learn to associate "down" with getting down on all fours.
I totally empathise with this. My bitch Millie has been very, very hard to housetrain.
She is 13 months old now. My dog is was house trained from early on but she has resisted all of the coaxing I have given her.
We can go on a 45 minute walk she will wait until she comes back and then...
I spoke to the chap who runs the local dog training classes and who helped me with Sidney's training some months ago. He was very concerned that such a previously placid dog is now displaying such behaviour. He has offered to work with me to try and identify the problem.
I am taking him down...
I have had two collars and leads from Hide and Collars and I would say the quality is second to none. Be prepared to pay a premium price, though. Well worth it.
Thanks to everyone for their advice and concern.
This doggy household is going back to basics in the hope it will help.
We hope things will improve formall of us.
I really am at loss as to what to do with my 20 month old whippet dog Sidney. Around the house he is such a gentle, gentle soul. Very loving and follows me everywhere.
I have had him since he was 13 weeks old. He was castrated when he was nearly 9 months old. He has always been skittish...
Just come across pic of my puppy Millie when she was the new kid on the block (she is now 10 months old and still very petite). She looks so cute and not like the destructive Tasmanian Devil she has grown into. We are having the terrible teens stage with her now. She is sooooooo destructive...
I can totally sympathise.
I have one angel and one devil. I got Sidney first. He is not the sharpest tool in the box but has always been calm and gentle. Millie is 10 months old now and is totally hyper. Just a few thing she has done include pulling down and shredding the venetian blind in...
Isn't life good! It's early May, the sun is shining and you're privileged enough to enjoy the full day having fun with the two most wonderful dogs in the world. Bliss!!! :) :) :)
