It was HOT. Very humid and I know I was struggling with heat. It was definitely in the 30's. We knew in advance that our judge like to run dogs and run we did. Can't remember doing that many laps at a Royal in a very long time - or even at a normal show. Having just competed with Salukis prior breed (and won Challenge Bitch :D ) and then back in for Whippets, I found it hard and am feeling a bit sore and sorry for myself this morning.

Benching was laid out differently so that the public can walk around and see all the dogs. From an exhibitors perspective, we felt it was one of the hottest times in the building and it was definitely cooler outside. Maybe the different benching layut stopped the airflow. The louvres weren't open and some exhibitors jumped up and down about calling the RSPCA if they didn't get them opened. Once opened, they didn't seem to make much difference. Our dogs were hot and panting so you can understand how agitated some exhibitors with heavily coated breeds became. We were lucky it was a work day and there weren't huge crowds in there otherwise I dread to think what it would have been like.

And then a big thunderstorm and a drop in temperature overnight. So hopefully it will be stay cooler for us this weekend with the Sighthound Show tomorrow, and the double whippet shows Sunday and Monday. :- "

I've told my feet they've got to hang out till Tuesday. Looking forward to going back to work for a rest. :D

Congratulations to all  Hope it cools down a bit for you - thanks for the results, keep em coming

Thanks for the results Toni- especially after what sounds like a pretty full on day. Congrats to all the winners

An error in Christians title - he is not a NZ GR Champion - it should be NZ CH/AUST GR CH Taejaan As Good As Itgets.

Here in NZ you have to have 3 x All Breeds BIS's & 50cc's for a NZ GR Champion title.

However - way to go Christian  - you are on a roll

Looking forward to Sighthound Show results.... :D Hopefully there will be someone who is not too tuckered out from showing to post them tonight.

Yep - I'm tuckered out all right.

Sighthound Show

BOB was my Blue - Ch Ridgesetter Hope N Glory (IID).

RUBOB was Tony Kyman's Paris - Gr Ch Taejaan Moulnrouge.

Res Dog was Bruce Lyck's Gr Ch Sherberghan Silk Road (handled by Vicki Shaw)

Res Bitch was Peter More & Peter Griffiths's Byerley Sillitto.

BIS was the Pharoah Hound of Helen Haydn's.

RUBIS was the Borzoi from Vic Quinn The Eskimo handled and co-owned by the Mistraka team.

Blue was the only whippet that went through winning Intermediate In Show.

Entry for our Whippet Show (today) is 123 and I think around 70 for Annabel Gunn the next day. Notmany youngsters this year - Class 4A and 10A are the big classes.

Will post full Sighthound results later.

And it was cooler today because it rained. :( I told all the interstaters that we just wanted them to use their full range of clothing. No use bringing raincoats if you don't get to wear them! :D

Been a busy few days. The Royal Thursday (Salukis and Whippets for me), then Sighthound Show (Whippets and Salukis) and then the Saluki CHamp show in the morning. Didn't enter the Saluki Open Show as we were wanting to get away early but ended up watching as we packed up.

The Sheik was looking for a working Saluki so no gaiting. All dogs were to be walked only in all different directions. Once the Sheik had chosen his best dog and bitch, he then put them through a rigourous walk in various directions and then much to everyone's amazement, asked each handler to drop their dog's lead and walk around the ring. Both the dog and bitch did this with applause from the onlookers. The Sheik then asked the steward to hold the dog's lead, the handler (Stan Green from Victoria) to walk to the end of the ring, and call his dog. Exercise completed to applause. The same for the bitch. The dog won BIS and the bitch (Padtheway Qafra owned by young Emma Friedland of NSW) won RUBIS.

The Sheik was looking for soundness. He commented he didn't want them running around at a fast pace as he wanted to see foot placement, how close / narrow or wide they were and how the parts moved together. We assumed the off lead part was to see how obedient the dogs were and that they could be called and would come. Mental alertness and stamina test. It was different and interesting.

I've had a lot of fun this past couple of days. Some good placing with the whippets but my highlight has been my Saluki who comes off the lounge once a year for these shows. She won Challenge Bitch at the Royal and Res Bitch and RUBOB at the Sighthound Show and 3rd in Aus Bred bitch as the Saluki Specialty. She's back home on the lounge now in her favourite position safe and secure for another 12 months. :D

I also handled Saluki Dog Challenge for my interstate friends (Ozrhode) and their bitch went on to win Puppy In Show. Also handled their Junior Bitch to win that class so more running for me today.

A busy time - two more days to go and then I can go back to work for a rest.

Off for a couple of hours sleep. Been panicking that I have all the bits and pieces needed for the show.

Cheers

Ummm ... I'm in Victoria so my sources might be wrong ... but I was informed that Ch. Nabihah Numero Oono was Res CC as the sighthound show?

No doubt you are all tired up there though with a marathon of shows happening! Keep the results coming through

Congratulations for Best of Breed!
