We're thinking about getting another whippet. Lacey is coming up 14 months old, bless her :wub: but we need some advice as to when the best age is to bring a pup into the family. Some advice would be very much appreciated x

Difficult to say really. Look at the dog you have. Does it have a good disposition? Does it get on with other dogs? Has it been well socialised? Do you have confidence in the quality of your dog's character? Will it be a share er?? If you can tick all those boxes and you are the type of person who can handle 2 dogs and be aware of their possible differences and be able to accommodate such differences, in other words, you will be the boss then, get another one. Unless you are VERY unlucky, they will be great for each other and for you and your family. Also, at the age your existing dog is it may well be an ideal time to expand. Good luck.

I don't know if there is a particularly good time, you just know when it feels right.

I've introduced a new pup when my first whippet was a year old, and things were fine, then I introduced a rescue when the first two were 2 yrs and 3 yrs old, and that was fine too.

Good luck :luck: with your second whippet. Arnt they just so addictive I dont think there is an 'age' as such to introduce another.....just whatever is good for you and your family and what you can fit in with your own lifestyle etc.

My Oscar was 8 months old when I got my second pup....and after the initial introductions they got on really well. If there are any quabbles- which there arnt...its usually over treats or chicken wings.. :blink: so Im extra careful when Im feeding them.

Oscar is almost 3 Kobi is 2 and Ive now got a 17 week old puppy who is Oscars son......and I worried too like yourself if I was doing the right thingin having another - would it change them...would they get on....would I cope....

Luckily things have worked out fine, and I have no regrets on having three now. :thumbsup: Once youve thought about it and done some research...Im sure you are half way there to having another.

Everyone seems to be giving you some good advice. All I would say is that in my opinion whippets really do seem to love the company of other whippets so a second one sounds like a great idea when you think the time is right :thumbsup:

....and besides my motto is 'there's ALWAYS room for one more!!!!' (w00t)

Lacey is a super girl so laid back and friendly , i'm sure you will never regret adding another whippet to your home

Thank you all so much for your words of advice. You'll be pleased to here that we're going for it!! It was lovely to meet lillybet on Saturday. Going to see puppy on Thursday so photos will be posted later in the week so watch this space! Thanks once again x :thumbsup:
