lalena said:we are keeping one, for showing (w00t) , but they each had such different, wonderful characters. its like giving away my children i'm just so glad i'll be keeping in contact, but its not the same. dammit, i miss all those little faces looking up at me in the morning waiting for cuddles, cleaning then feeding in that order, bless! i'm worse about them leaving than amber, their mother :b . have you bred, lesley?
lalena said:tell me about it! for a while, there was a lull, and no one called about buying one, and i kept saying to my oh, "how about we keep 2 instead of 1?" and "its not so bad if we get left with them..." NOT impressed! at that point spaying was mentioned! told me if i was going to be like this next time, no way would he let me breed amber again! i think he had visions of a dozen dogs running riot be warned, you cannot underestimate the attachment you get to the furry little suckers! helping a 1st time mum with getting a puppy out of its sack, initially guiding them to her teats... i'm going to start blubbing again!
how many dogs have you got, lesley?
What a silly question :wacko:unwanted said:why breed if u feel this way about getting rid of pups(hope they all get good homes) :- "
I wasn't refering to Lalena's motives for breeding I was referring to the fact that it is a natural feeling for her to have an emotional bond with her dogs pups, therefore "why breed if you feel this way about getting rid of pups" is a silly question.unwanted said:the question was not silly i just hope they all get good homes and do well at showing, sound like she as been studying the breeding for a while and i hope it works out for them, just wish a lot more people study breeding before putting dogs together
sadly, its all too true about people putting 'defective' (meaning either affected, or known carrier)animals together, just look at white dobes. or, in my breed, inbreeding waaaaay too much in order to produce 'blues', which can retail as much as £1500 per pup, nevermind that shape, head and temperament are severely compromised.not just by showing standards, either, but in potentially life threatening ways . they seem to forget that, while selective line breeding can help fix the good points in, inbreeding is far more likely to fix in bad points. theres a line of non ped staffs near me where normal whelping simply cannot happen, each bitch theyve bred has needed a ceaser, and instead of removing dam and progeny from the breeding program, which should happen, they repeatedly breed from them again and again.some poor girls have had 5 or 6 litters, all by c section.its not just on the female side, as they interbreed the male pups very closely, half siblings etc, so the tragic offspring have it coming from both sidesunwanted said:the question was not silly i just hope they all get good homes and do well at showing, sound like she as been studying the breeding for a while and i hope it works out for them, just wish a lot more people study breeding before putting dogs together

i dont think its even crossed their minds that a complete outcross could save the whole program, as well as prevent alot of suffering for future generations
u not wacko about some of the things u have said u just hit on a raw nerve with me but im only human, and its forgot about now :teehee: different people on different ways of the dog world.i never get very attached to dogs i learnt not to after looseing 2 dogs a few years ago,but like i say each to there own say.lalena said:had to be something out there (w00t) seriously, though, i am happy to have finally met a group of likeminded people with regards to breeding, rearing and overall loving of their pets! i was beginning to think i was crazy after the things i've seen and heard
