Ella must've thought we'd abandoned her, should've come home from Sharm el Sheikh Sun but got home Fri am.
10 days into a 2wk hol and we'd had enough of the all inclusive samey food and we're spending a fortune on eating out.... never mind what they say it's not cheap in Egypt, £8 for a pint of Heineken.
The hotel with waterpark was good, hated the hagling for everything and constant invasion of personal space by every local in sight (not that I'm unsociable). Then the air crisis hit and despite what you may think 'lucky sods getting an extension on holiday' it's not something I'd like to repeat.
Just kept calm and being positive, at least we weren't covered in ash or under earthquake rubble !
The prospect of a 48 hr journey home by navy ship or coach wasn't exciting with travel sick kids so I began to stock pile loo rolls and plastic bags.
Got to thank Thomson/First choice for extending our stay at their expense, some other companys weren't as good and although we were never sure if we could stay put in same hotel until the last minute each day and had to check the board every 3 hrs, so couldn't plan anything or go further than the pool, we compared ourselves to the unlucky souls who were changing hotels daily or had to find own accommodation because they hadn't booked a package hol.
So, despite losing wages and spending £200 on phone calls home (had daughters best friend with us who was very brave but must've been getting homesick),paying extra to eat something in a different place, missing appointments etc I've never been so relieved to hit Manchester tarmac in one piece.
It was a bit like groundhog day, whenever you're on hol and wish it could last longer..........be careful what you wish for !!!!
Ella's all snug on the dofa by me now, wonder if she missed me as much as I missed her ?!!
My heart goes out to all those still stuck or travelling......and to all those who are ripping off stranded travellers with extortionate prices (yes I know that's the way of the world) I hope you're in the same position one day and feel the other end of the stick.
