After eventually finding the stretch of 'beach' we wanted to visit today (after a two hour drive), we discovered the tide was in and conditions were rather windy to say the least (guess who hadn't checked the high tide times!)......

Not to be deterred we strolled further along the coast to the sand dunes...

We bumped into other dogs and the usual greetings were exchanged:

Suddenly Stan was off in search of his master.....

Brilliant  - I'd love to go and see those sculptures - are they going to leave them there for good now?

Thank you. :) Yes, as far as I know they are going to stay.

Lovely photos Nicola, as always.  Looks as though you all had a great day.

Great pictures Nicola  You have captured the weather conditions especially the wind brilliantly

I was just about to ask where you were when I saw the statues! Stan does look a bit worried by them doesn't he? I love those photos of him eyeing them up. It's a nice photo of your 'boys' as well. Glad you had a good day.

Jonah had the same reaction as Stan when he saw those statues and he was only a little puppy at the time. Here he is

Thank you :) It was a tad blustery....I'm going to have to wash the car tomorrow because a couple of waves crashed right over into the car park and sprayed the car

Fred opted to stay in the car on the second leg of the walk to the statues. :- " He doesn't mind the cold so much but he's not keen on wet sands and a windy beach :p

There's 100 of the statues Janis. (w00t) The whole collection is called "Another Place' We only saw a couple of them, but we didn't walk very far along the beach and the tide was still in (note to self-check tidal times for next visit). It was quite spooky seeing their heads and shoulders emerge as the tide started to go out. I'm not surprised Stan was a bit unsure of himself. :p

Here a quote with some more information about the statues from the linked website below:

'The Another Place figures - each one weighing 650 kilos - are made from casts of the artist's (Anthony Gormley) own body and are shown at different stages of rising out of the sand, all of them looking out to sea, staring at the horizon in silent expectation'

Thanks for that Janis. I hadn't realised The Angel of the North was an Anthony Gormley too. Another statue/sculpture to add to the 'must see' list. I've often admired pictures of it, but I'd like to see it for real.

Richard and I were just saying when its fine...we shall take the boys up there for a photo shoot...

weve been ourselves ....its a great site to see...although some people hate it!!

I quite like it and I think its because most of it was actually made in the local steelworks where I worked for 16 years...as Receptionist..

How nice that you have a connection with the place where it was constructed :)
