Daisy, my little preloved has IBS and EDI and is on Burns Pork and Potato with added soluable fibre and doing really well.

When she arrived about 4 weeks ago, I noticed that she rarely touched water. With her condition plenty of fluids are essential.

She will drink water if I add a touch of goats milk (loves it!) but otherwise does not touch the stuff :(

My problem is that all the dogs want some and they clear the bowl in a flash whereas Daisy takes her time.

Presently I put out two bowls in seperate areas but my other dogs do not really need the extra fluid intake.

Any advice on getting Daisy to drink water without the goats milk?

when we race none of our dogs want to drink a drop! so we stared adding a little strawberry milkshake to, and they love it

dont know how to get her to drin the water....maybe cooled boiled water with some sugar in it?? but the others will still want some i guess!

Try a little bit of honey in the water. Use hot to melt it and then add cold. Of course, the others will want it too so that won't help that part. You could put it in a cup and let them all take turns, tiny turns for the others, long ones for her.

All mine drink water... even the pup and my cats too...I have several bowls in the house

and they still often stop and drink at the river or out of mucky puddles....

you could try adding a little bit of honey to it.......this may help...

If it was Manuka honey it might help with the IBS too

I've noticed with mine that if a little particle of food ever finds it way into the bottom of the water bowl they'll practically drink it dry trying to get at it ... might be worth a try

Hi Eve........................i,ve got the same problem with Peter, its very rare he drinks water  ...................so i always put a bit of milk in his,and then he laps it up.My other dogs drink plain water no probs

I rarely see Fred drinking water. However, I have noticed that he likes his water very fresh and will only drink out of the shared water bowl as a last resort. You can actually see him wrinkling his nose. He much prefers drinking from the loo which gets regularly flushed with fresh water. OK..I won't tell him if you don't! :b Cats are the same I believe, they much prefer fresh water which is why some owners buy those water bowls that circulate the water a bit (?)

I realise this is a grasping at straws thing, but I have heard of dogs that don't like tap water (my freind's Great Dane would never drink tap water, only water from a local stream), and Fred will only drink his fresh.

have you tried just adding some water to the Burns when you feed her...i know it isn't necessary normally but that's how we got Badger to drink more without him knowing (w00t) ..we did at one point have several of ours on Burns Pork and Potato due to little Bills allergies and Badger definitely didn't seem to notice when it was a bit mushy in places.

I also make my dogs a cup of tea occasionally but only with a small amount of milk.

also what about just reducing the amount of milk so that it's mostly water with a hint of milk and offer it just to her, morning and evening. if we have to do anything like this for just one dog and not the others, we just shut the dog in one room so he can have his extra intake on his own for ten minutes.

you've prob tried all that but :)) just my thoughts.

Thanks to everyone for the tips.

Yes, Daisy's food floats in the water when I give it to her 3 x a day. The extra water I try to give her is to flush out her system and help stop any constipation or rehydrate her is she is very loose.

I like the idea of the Manuka honey, in addition to keeping her drinking more, the sugars will help with her energy levels as I am trying to put some weight on her. Daisy is lively and probably burns a lot of calories running and playing with the others. I have to put her on a lead when we are lurecoursing as she will run a full 500m with the others :D

I cannot overburden her bowel by feeding her any extra food (she already gets extra) so this tip could be really useful thanks.
