Well, vist to the vets today was very positive. I saw the x-rays for the first time and the 'before' version was pretty horrific - a real mess with dislocation and fragments of bone. You couldn't see a trace of this with he 'after' version, so they are very pleased. There was also a previous break there too although when it happend we have no idea as I have no memory of any lameness in the front legs at any point.

Despite this it needs a few more weeks in plaster. He's not letting it get him down, he learned to run on 3 legs within a few days of the cast going on, which caught OH out, and managed to escape and chase the rabbits (and may well have caught one as he disappeared for 20 mins after :b ) He keeps the cast well of the ground when running, I would have been reluctant to believe how well they can manage on 3 legs if I hadn't seen it myself.

We are trying to keep it to just gentle exercise in the garden, to avoid chafing and knocks, but thought he deserved a little trip to the field yesterday, and took the camera along:

Playing with a pot egg - even the foxes think they are real and pinch them

Bless him, he's still chirpy

Thanks. He is a relentlessly cheerful dog

They wouldn't be guarantee anything, but they did say if all is well when it comes off again he might be able to run again in a couple of months. If I dare :sweating:

He really is such a lovely happy boy. He sould be ready for a walk with my girlies about when Tess finishes her season- good timing.

I am so very glad that he is mending properly :D

Nice photos Elizabeth. Good to see the plaster isn't hampering him.

Oh bless him!  o:) So pleased he's mending well. :huggles:

Thanks for you kind thoughts. I was so relieved yesterday, thinking the phone would ring with bad news. The after effects of the anaesthetic are always a bit worrying too, although he was better this time.

Yes, I did ask the vet about it when he started running around, they only seemed bothered about friction from the cast causing sores. Whatever they did to the toe they didn't think it should move within the cast. They've replaced it with a smaller cast that should allow more movement with the idea that he starts to use it a bit more, gradually.

I'm looking forward to having our first proper walk Olivia, I need the exercise as well although carrying him up and down the stairs has helped

How are Ollie (and Freeway) now? :luck:

Aww Gelert - glad to see you can still get out and about. Get Well soon boy  :huggles: nice pictures Elizabeth.

Flo sends her Uncle Gelert best wishes for a speedy recovery :huggles:

Do hope he is back on four legs before long, (though from the photos he doesn't seem to have slowed down much on three legs!)

He will feel so much better when the cast comes off. :luck: :luck:
