SAM_AT_8_MONTHS_AND_YEARS_LATER_WITH_AUTO_IMMUNE.jpgHere are a couple of pics of our Sam at 8 months and years later after the auto immune condition had struck. He was a rescue whippet and settled with us instantly. (August 2000)

He became ill one year later and has been on high levels of meds ever since. In this pic he has lost most of his coat and weighs approx 40lbs. One reason why we feared for little Jack's safety was Sam's weight.

Hope you don't mind me going down memory lane. It is helping with losing the little one....

Keep warm whippeteers!

Ah...thank you! You must know how it feels to give something up you love for their sake? :(

Sam is nearly 10 and doing well. He is the first of my whippets to live a singular life as he has cost a fortune in meds and attention. We were told he might make 7!! He is so brave - hence immortalising him in print - Sam the Patchwork Whippet!

I was hoping a companion for him (dog or bitch around 6-12 months) would enable him to live out the autumn of his days having some fun. My husband says Sam doesn't need a companion as he has us but seeing him play with the puppy last week has shown him otherwise! :p

Hubbies preference is for red fawn as his first whippet was Laguna bred being that colour and very small. Nik lived to 16 and almost cleared the open fields of bunnies!! :b

Thanks for your kind comments! :)

Sam is just adorable, Hannah

It is obviously your good care and love that has brought him through to nearly a decade of life

That's a wonderful news of improvement for Sam. He must be much confident now, hope to see more pics of him. ;)

Sam was a very lucky dog to have found you and been so well loved :huggles:

Your comments are so very kind and are helping me more than you can know.

With so much of our lives taken up with the desire for youth, strength and beauty, we often lose sight of the truth that it is all only skin deep and the real gift is within.

The comparison between Sam and little Jack was immense. Jack was innocent, pure, handsome, full of life in every way. Just the opposite to Sam who is elderly, clumsy, moth eaten and etc.

But we know as a family that we were picked for Sam and not the other way round. It wasn't about the right dog for us but the right home for Sam, and for that I feel very humble.

I look at pics of fit, healthy, hairy dogs with a little envy sometimes, then Sam wanders over, puts his head on my knee and looks deep into my heart. Not my eyes but my heart. There he finds his home and is content.

You people are the best - thank you so much.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and i truely think sam is a beauty, one of my greyhounds before i took her was covered in mange, and had hardly any hair she was overlooked all the time, but when i met her i saw another dog instead of what my eye's saw so took her home, it took many months to get her hair back,

but she was like my soul mate, should stand over me in the morning and smile with a big toothy grin,

i straight raced her and anything that she won she would come back swaggering as if to say look what i did mum, i have many dogs that were special in their own way but she just had that little something different, and i get that impression you have that something special with sam,

i do believe special dogs pick special owners and you are one of them

I told Sam he could be acquiring celebrity status and he agreed to pose for the camera once again! He has such an honest head and temperement as you can see by the pics.

Thank you for your kind words and seeing past the dreadful disease.

More snaps of celebrity Sam! we are fortunate to live next to the Rothschild horse stud farm in Linslade and have acres of fields available to run the dog(s) in. Enjoy!
