Hello I wonder if anyone here could offer me some advice. I have a little boy Yorkie he is 11 years old and was diagnoised with diabetes type one yesterday.

I would like to ask what kind of cost is involved with this treatment if Anyone else has had this treatment for their dog?

I am also wrestling with the fact of sticking needles into him everyday for testing and for the medication.

I would love to know if there are any alternatives like getting your own meds and syringes??? and if anyone has this problem perhaps they could give me a idea of the cost involved on a weekly basis.

Thanks you for any help in advance.

I have a cat that was diagnosed in August this year , he had to have his bloods tested which initial cost £116 this price included urine test too . Results gave the vet how much insulin to give so we started him on a small dosage , after a few weeks he was drinking lots again and sleeping most of the time , so again bloods was done and think that time it cost £80 , test indicated to slightly up the dosage so we did , hes still not his old self but pottering and eating plenty . insulin cost £12 a month from the vets and i buy the needles on the web which costs £8 for 30 , you can use them about 4 times before they get blunt . Weve been told he will need a check up every 3 months and he's is due end of this month , will see then how much it will cost when we get there .

My dog was diagnosed diabetic about 3 years ago. I cried my eyes out when they first told me I had to inject her twice a day for the rest of her life! It really isn't that bad once you get used to it, and the vets are usually very good at explaining the correct way to inject them. The needles are £18 for two boxes, bought from (medicanimal.com) She has to have her blood checked every couple of months, I would have to check with my Mum what the costs are because she takes her. And her insulin in £30 per bottle.

I'm pleased to say that my dog is still going strong at 12.5 years old!

Don't worry it will be fine. :)

Hi there, my dog was diagnosed diabetic in June 2011. The thought of having to inject him twice a day way awful but it soon becomes the norm.

He also had Cushings.

How are you coping?
