I'm applying for an affix and wondered if anyone knew whether the KC are likely to approve affixes that aren't in use here for whippets (or any other breed) but have been used for whippets in the USA (as recently as the 1990's so may still be current).

Cheers

Annie

All you can do it try! Why do you want an affix or Kennel Name as it is now known. I don't know why the KC changed it. Most people who breed use an affix. Some don't but use initials. Ralph Parsons, greyhound man used RP all his dogs registered names began with RP Royal Portrait. Or Susan Baird, she had coursing/show whippets, Ch Sound Barrier was a well known dog. Must stop rambling and go to bed!!!!!!!!!!!

Anne I don't actually want an affix I want a suffix ... I'd like to have all the boys and any new additions connected by a single name

It's no longer called an affix or suffix!!!!!!! I don't know why the KC has to change things that have been going for years. It is now a Kennel Name. Stupid they are.

I pay annually to keep my kennel name, money for old rope I think.

I would try and get your 'own' name, i know how precious 'kennel names' are and to think someone would be using the same kennel name as mine in a different country would make me quite unhappy, (although there is nothing stopping you )

Applications are published in the kennel gazette monthly, if one is very similar to yours you can object :)

To be honest I think the US one is no longer in use. I know what you mean though ... having picked a name that was personal to me when on searching I found it had been used in the US I ridiculously felt as you describe ... almost how dare they use 'my' name ... so I've already decided to choose something else  Big problem now though is what

I paid 7/ 6 for life in the 60's . Now that is what I call a bargain!

I still wish you were able to make a one off payment ;)

There are 2 affixs(ok Kennel names) that are Flyalong which can be confusing. Both are hounds & both, at one point, had Whipps

dont get me started on kennel names.........

there are two Flyalongs eh? We cant have Winterfell cos there is a breeder of short haired pointers with the kennel name Winterwell

i know i shouldve enquired beforehand but hind sight is a wonderful thing

Sarah i thought Winterfell was your name?????

nope, kennel club wont let me have it. i renamed them all as puppies hence why they have all got winterfell. i wont be able to name all the pups in any litters my girls have as Winterfells. think they said id only be able to have one with Winterfell in its name, that will be the one we keep of course.

ive had numerous discussions with the Kennel club about it. if anyone has any ideas as to how to get it through id appreciate it very much.

Do you mean you had their pedigrees changed Sarah ?

I think its a shame you can't get :(

You can't. Mary Rigby of the Poachyn whippets forgot to pay her annual fee and lost her original affix, Poaching, they wouldn't let her have it back, Now that is mean, she had that affix in the 60s and they made her use Poachyn!

There is out there somewhere some GSDs with my affix, as I didn't have the Kennel Gazette I knew nothing about it until I saw a photo in Dog World of a GSD with my affix! I objected in vain. So I don't hold out any hope for your quest either. Maddening isn't it?

Flyalong has been registered for many years.

I have noticed that there are dogs that have been allowed to have Poaching very recently

thats very strange cos they told me that even if the person didnt renew their kennel name i couldnt have it until 2 or 3 years after they last renewed! maddening indeed but noone but myself to blame.

yeh Ann i changed their pedigree names, with the breeders full approval i hasten to add.

Did you change their names all together Sarah or

did you have to leave their original name and add

yours to it.
