Sounds like you were lucky , maybe its agood job there was alot of traffic , it meant they couldntrace down the M42 ,

Many years ago i spun my friends Suzuki jeep thing . in snow, on the A1 , ended up side ways on to on coming traffic (w00t) Luckily for me a very large artic saw my predickament (sp) and straddled both lanes and stopped traffic until Id started the car and moved on :- " . I pulled into the next lay by and a lorry driver stopped to ask if I was ok , which I thought was lovely ,. Now had I been the passenger I would hav insisted on driving the rest of the way to Newcastle , but she was quite ademant that I continue as driver , very brave of her I thought , mind you if she hadnt I might never have driven again :b

Thanks everyone. Yes, thankfully we are ok although a bit shaken as you can imagine. Our dogs are very used to travelling and took it in their stride - looking at us afterwards as if to say "what was all that about" but not at all concerned.

If it hadn't been for the goodwill of the recovery driver I think we'd still be there now. Lessons learnt - make sure you have emergency contact numbers available for both recovery & insurance company. Check your recovery policy or insurance policy wording very carefully to check they will transport you and your dogs to any destination in the case of a road traffic accident. All the glass was still intact on our van so the dogs could travel in it while on the back of the recovery vehicle - I don't think the driver would have allowed them in the drivers cab with us. Always carry your full driving licence with you so that if you have to hire a car you can do. Most hire car companies don't allow dogs in the vehicles so you have to use your imagination there

Youre quite right Nigel( of course) we wouldnt think about those sort of things would we :b Im with the AA so will look at the policy and see what it says , Surely they wouldnt have suggested you leave the dogs behind though (w00t)

Lets just hope non of us need it , but with all the miles some of us do I suppose law of averages says something must happen evenytually , maybe ive had my `mishap ` :luck: and now hopefully youve had yours :luck: :wacko:

Well I was quite sure we were covered for a recovery back home after an accident but they said not - I had every excuse thrown at me from pet allergies to insurance policy didn't cover transporting livestock! Eventually I managed to find a card with an emergency number on it for the insurance company but I didn't have my full driving licence with me only the card - so I couldn't hire a car If we'd needed to. The only suggestion they could come up with is for us to catch a train and have the dogs on leads :wacko:

Glad you are both ok, I have heard some really nasty stories about breakdown services not wanting to transport dogs. I think we all need to check our cover.

It must have been terrible for you both, but the good thing is that you had kitted your van out with cages, which definitely definitely saved your dogs from serious injury or heaven forbid worse.

Aren't there just some right jobs worths about, words fail me. Thankfully you can replace a van but not people or dogs. So I think you should pat yourself on the back cos your reactions probably prevented an even worse situation happening.
