We really enjoy Heartbeat and have been to Goathland so many times but have never come across them filming. This week we managed it! :D

Actually Trish, I don't think I'd recognise one if I saw it! :b We only saw what appeared to be the same bit of storyline concerning that traction engine for a short while on two consecutive days. It must take ages to film one episode. :- " But we will be eagerly awaiting the next series now!

they was filming in masham when they borrowed it, they certainly get around dont they

I love Goathland too Gillian, but I too have never come across them filming..

its strange but did you see my earlier post that Alfred the lurcher has died this week that played in Heartbeat with Greengrass.

Your post about Alfred was one of the first things I read when I got back Janis - quite a co-incidence! :)

We stayed in Rosedale Abbey this time - another lovely village. We keep going back to the North Yorkshire Moors as we love it so much. It's got everything we like, nice walks, great doggie beaches, and steam trains! :D The area's top on our list for retirement so far!

Thats a coincidence too Gillian, because we stayed on a Dairy farm in Rosedale once too when the children were small....it was lovely and I have really happy memories of that short break there.

Did you go past the shire horse farm.

Didn't notice that, Janis. We had a lovely day yesterday - a walk on the moors from our cottage in the morning followed by a toasted sandwich in one of the lovely tea shops in the village, and then off to Goathland for some more filming and finally on to Grosmont where Richard was so pleased to have a really close up view of Sir Nigel Gresley (steam train in case people are wondering! ) when they were getting rid of all the ash and dust from a day's running. He was offered to go and help but he declined and now wishes he hadn't even if it would have meant getting really dirty! (w00t)

I will post some pictures of our few days tomorrow.

I love Goathland and all the Yorkshire Moors too.

Trish - They often film in the dales as well as the moor - will we see your lure machine in an episode Trish?

Whilst on the subject of Goathland - have any of you ever read Joyce Fussey's books about her family's life on their smallholding on Goathland - titles such as 'Milk my ewes and Weep' 'Cats in the Coffee' etc. Published some years ago but very enjoyable reads. [Joyce is a distant relative of mine, but I am not prejudiced]

That sounds interesting - I enjoy books like that. I will try and get hold of a copy.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday Gillian. We were in Whitby a few weeks ago, I love it up there.

We went some years ago & managed to be in Goathland when they were filming Heartbeat. It was a scene in the church right at the end of the village but we never did see it on the tv so either missed that episode or it was cut out.

We were rather hoping they may have needed our Rafferty as an Alfred stand in but No :b

If you go again there is a great walk from Goathland to "Beck Hole" a tiny hamlet a mile or two away. There is a lovely little pub with a pretty garden where you can refresh yourself before the walk back.

When we all retire up there we may be neighbours

Will do Trish, but I think they take a long time to get the programmes produced. A friend of mine lives up near Masham and I know they do a lot of filming up there, so I am always looking out for places I know. I suppose all the filming is for the next series.
