( here is my advice to another topic) hello there if its any help to you i work in canine and feline nutrtion? pedigree isn't so good as you gathered by the meat and animal deriatives in it. I work for a company called Pets corner. We are all about advising good food for cats and dogs mainly helping skin problems and genrel health along the way. there are alot of good foods on the market at the moment dry and wet theres so much to choose from. But as a nutritionist i feed a dry food called organi pets with organic chicken and rise high meat content also frozen natures menu nuggets are there best raw frozen food to feed in my opinion. Pouches or tins wise again natures menu, applaws(not complete would need complete mixer) nature diet or james wellbeloved pouches. Dry foods are royal canin, nutro choice, james wellbeloved, organi-pets, first class etc. eukanuba and iams are sort of the middle part of the scale. Pedigree, beta, pal, chappie, bakers and genreal super market brands are the bottem end of the scale. (these bottem end scale foods can make your dog have bad breath, loose stools, odour to the coat and bad teeth as it contains various sugars, parts of different animals and alot of salt, preservatives ec additives and colourants. all making your dog unhealthy sometimes itchy also fat. I will say people obviously feed these foods and everyone is entilted to what they feed there beloved friend hope thats a little better. can you see i don't switch off from work heehee if you need any other advise even with injurys skin problems etc between me and my work friends we usually come up with the answer. dee x :thumbsup:

The best advice to give anyone is to feed their dogs on purely natural food with absolutely NO additives & preservatives.And preferably raw meat,bones & veg!!!

This is by far the best way to keep dogs healthy & free from skin & the many other probelms that arise from the majority of commercial crap!!!

Skinners, Burgess Foods, Dodson and Horrell, are old long established food manufacturers, and I am sure their products are good and well researched, each to his own.

When I worked in a kennels, they fed Laughing Dog Meal. Raw tripe, cooked horse meat, beef, cows udders, meat trimmings, all from the knackers yard, which is why it was cooked. All the dogs thrived on this diet. They also had Laughing Dog milk wheat biscuits and marrow bones. They bred GSDs.

I feed tripe, chicken wings and necks, a small amount of Greyhound Maintenance complete, vegetables etc. The cost has really rocketed recently for tripe.

I am paying 85 for 1lb of tripe, living so far south west puts the price of everything up.

pets corner is inside wyevale garden centres yes some of them anyway we also have high street stores.

burns is also good yes never heard of trophy myself. Most foods are good if theres no meat and animals derivatives etc etc. look for dehydrated poultry meat / meat meal or chicken (23% etc) rice, or cooked maize. Oats(organic) are a good natural food source for dogs,& especially useful for overweight dogs as they are filling but not fattening......why do you think John Burns brought out Burns high oats???

There is no single "best food", it's all a matter of personal opinion.

what suits one person and they feel is healthy and good for their dogs, won't necessarily suit another.

just as an example there are those who advocate the feeding of raw food but for me and my dogs the risk of salmonella, impacted gut and perforation, from feeding that particular diet, renders that diet a total no go for me. since I work in a vets I have seen the result of all three problems and I personally wouldn't risk subjecting my dog to the possibility.

like I say it's all a matter of personal choice with no one being right or wrong, we just all choose what works for us and our pets.

my old boxer dog (RIP) was fed his whole life on beta and or pedigree chum and he lived a long and healthy life and yet neither of those foods suit my current dog s and these have mostly been fed on James Wellbeloved apart from two, one who actually lives on chappie tinned food...not because it is cheap but because for him it is the only food his body can tolerate for any length of time, my beagle is on Royal Canin Hepatic food due to his liver disease and therefore for him that is the best food.

It's all horses for courses really.

I completly agree with you even though some ingrediants arnt great some dogs cant cope with high protein or high meat content etc etc all dogs are different. My advise was an all round thing. :thumbsup:

No offence but this is a public forum and people can "quote" as they wish, it's not rude it is simply their opinion. There are hundreds of people on here with years of experience feeding their dogs, it's a little naive to think you can sweep in and re-educate people because you work in pets corner...it's like someone from a pet shop trying to educate a vet as to how to perform complex surgery. personal i feed a mix of raw meats sourced locally or caught by the dogs, with oscars pet worker maintenence , or greyhound maintenence, or the red mills tracker and racer range , depending on what level of work the dogs are doing , i also cook the meats and feed eggs vegs raw and cooked, annsa calls my dog pot the death pot as she never knows whats cooking lol

this seems to work for my whippets lurchers and italian greyhounds with coats that gleam , good clean teeth with fresh breath, small firm stools and loads of energy , i think you have to find what suits you your pocket and most of all your dogs :thumbsup:

No im well aware that this is a forum but im not turning round to you and saying you obviously arn't good at your job etc thats just not really needed.
