The kennel club has called apon the government to make all dog breeders sign up to its accreditied breeders scheme because they believe there is a difference between what they describe as responsible breeder and unscrupulous puppy farmers.

If the goverment agrees it could mean that the kc might have statutory powers to make the scheme's requirements compulsory throughout the country, which could mean that those breeders not conforming to the new kc standards would be unable to produce or sell puppies within the law. What do they mean by with in the law.

What i would like to know how would this affect people that want to breed from their bitch just the once to follow on their lines ,will have they to be registered to the sheme, and how would they be able to stop puppy farmers from churning out puppies by the bucket loads, i think the government needs to look into this a bit more closely personally.

Although measures which will increase responsible breeding are to be applauded I think that such as above may be a step too far. People, either unscrupulous or just breeding the one litter, will be tempted to do without KC registration. This is where IMO, in order to gave a pedigree and "papers" there may be a real danger of an alternative registry being set up. Non KC or alternative registration would then also make it much more difficult for the KC to any influence on health issues.
