I took Baggins to the vets this afternoon & as I knew, the tumour had got so much bigger in the last few weeks :( The vet was really lovely & said we had 2 choices, 1. to do exploratory work & then major surgery involving removing a big part of his jaw or 2. Euthanasia. At this point I was already crying as I knew that I couldn't put Baggins through all that.

The vet said that if it was his cat he wouldn't even consider option 1 so very very sadly old Baggins was put to sleep :(

It was very quick & very peaceful & of course I stayed with him.

He is now buried on the rockery where he always used to love sunbathing in summer.

There have been lots of tears this evening & even chocolate & alcohol are not helping to console me.

I know it was the only thing we could do as in another week or two he wouldn't have been able to eat or breathe properly if the tumour continued to grow as fast as it was doing.

His lasting claim to fame is that some years ago he was used as the model cat for "Pets at Home" own brand senior cat food, they renamed him "Arthur" but that's our Baggins. We were given the original photo which has pride of place on the wall.

He is going to leave a big ginger gap in our house o:)

You have allowed him to pass on with dignity and without pain, that is a huge gift. He had a great life, have a hug. :huggles:

So sorry about Baggins, he won't be lonely though, he'll have gone to heaven with my sister's little cat, Star who was almost 18 and was pts yesterday as her kidneys failed.

RIP Baggins and Star

Thanks for all you lovely thoughts, but you've all gone & made me cry again now.

It was weird this morning him not being first in the queue for breakfast. We'll also notice the difference in winter when one of the others gets to hog the best place in front of the fire

So sorry to hear about your news - RIP baggins - really feel for you all :huggles:

So sorry for your loss :( You know you did the right thing, but it doesnt make it any easier :( Baggins looked so like our ginger cat in the photo - he tragically got knocked by a car when he was only 2,

Bought a tear to my eye reading about Baggins. I know how you must be feeling - I expected to see a 'ginger blob' curled up on sofa or bed! whenever i walked into a room.

Thinking of you :huggles:

:( Sorry for your loss, you did the right thing he is at peace now.
