Best clippers for dog grooming?

Hi guys
Just got a puppy who will need clipping in about a months time. Going to take him to a groomers on his first visit it then I would like to start doing it myself. I've been researching the best types of clippers. Would like a good quality sturdy pair. Any recommendations from anybody?

Heiniger cordless are very good but pricey, Andis is also a good brand, we use both in our salon. Cordless are obviously more expensive than corded but the freedom of cordless is great, plus with the Heiniger at least, you get a spare battery so you can clip and charge at the same time and swap when you run out of power. Have a chat with your groomer too and get their opinion, it depends on your price range really. In my opinion if you want a good quality sturdy pair I'd just go for the Heiniger and in the end it will be cheaper than taking your dog to a groomer for the rest of his/her life. What breed have you got?

Hi, I have 'Wahl' dog clippers and they have served me well, I even do my husbands hair with them! Just make sure you maintain them, clean after use and oil the blades.

I use "Aesculap" clippers for our lot. Mine are now 45 years old and have never let me down, keep blades clean and oiled while using. Fantastic!

He's a colliedoodle. He has wiry puppy fur at mo with lovely wavy fur just coming through. Looks a right scruff pot at the mo! How old is best to clip him?

I'd say the earlier the better just doing little bits with him like brushing and then eventually get the clippers and just turn them on and let him get used to the noise, your groomer may do this for his first time for a few minutes and then start clipping him. So in the meantime get him used to brushing and being handled, like having his legs picked up and feet touched, getting used to the sound of the dryer. how old is he? I think once his coat has fully grown (once he's 6-8 months old) you're alright to clip.

He's 5 months. I'm already grooming him again very day which he thinks is a bit of a game at mo. Thanks for your advice! x

Ooh dear haha, I can imagine! Just do little bits at a time and only end the session when he's calm, you don't want him thinking the grooming ends when he plays up. No problem
