Hi peeps,

One of nurses at work told me today that both her 1 year old baby shitz zu's were killed by Ant powder!

Her husband had sprinkled the power in some nooks and crannies away from dogs area.

With all that rain the ant powder mixed and the dogs licked the ground. The dogs names are Pumba & Simba.THEY WERE MY FRIENDS PRIDE AND JOY. As you can imagine her husband especially is feeling sooooooo low.

Chris is a k9 member and loved to come into chat for a giggle and advice.

I sure most of you are already aware of how toxic these powders are however the vet said its even worse when diluted with water.PLEASE BE CAREFULL.

RIP PUMA AND SIMBA-RUN FREE BOYS :huggles:

I am so sorry , that poor man must be beside himself with grief

We never use ant powder because of the dogs the same goes for slug pellets .

Good old fashioed boiling water does the job just watch the ants for the right cracks to poor it and shut the dogs away while you tip the boiling water in, works every time.

Oh and do be careful of fly spay if you have fish or birds in the house that can prove fatal too.

Oh no your poor friend :( RIP Pumba and Simba (Timone and Pumba were my favourites out of the Lion King).

I have just read on another forum about somebodies collie which has died eating slug pellets - so sad :'(

What an awful tragedy, my heart goes out to the owners :(

How sad for this to happen if I need to kill the ant I use a small amount of flea powder around the hole works well and is not so toxic to pets.

My Ant powder is going straight in the bin (w00t)

That poor family :(

RIP little ones :(

so so sorry for your friends, my heart goes out to them :(

its sad that we learn to keep our dogs safe through others misfortunes and losses :(

R.I.P pumba and simba

Thanks to all of you.Its so sad.

However there is good news! (w00t)

After many tears Chris,my friend, is going to get two more puppies! The breeder was so sad about what happened she is giving Chris two more babies.

Not sure when they will arrive, not sure on age of her litter.

We got new pups after our beloved whippet Jack died 11th dec 2005.They arrived 5th feb 2006.Best thing we ever did.We will always hold Jack in our hearts. He would have loved them!

The new pups will never replace Pumba and Simba however it gives Chris something positive to look forward to.

We all live and learn eh?

Im going to print off all your lovely messages and give them to Chris in a card to show how much people like you on k9 care.

Will keep you all posted

Would just like to add to this ,and tell of what slug pellet's did to the only litter ever bred from Cornish Bob.We had just moved, and i did' nt see the slug pellet's on an old window sill, and when i moved the pup's to the other side of the shed to go and sort the dog food out, they spied them and 2 of them ate them. Both died, one almost straight away, and the other whilst on a drip, and in my arm's at 5.45 in the morning.Apparently there is no antidote for these thing's.As regard's ant's,my pup's got an awful eating from them last week, whilst on holiday's,and i knew nothing about the bugger's till the pup's were litteraly dancing on the ground, and could'nt get away from them. They ate the feet of them, poor wee might's,and i felt so bad for closing them in. Just thought id share. Realy sad about the 2 dog's,and i know how that man feel's,believe me.My daughter still draw's little pix of her pup lying on the matt, with the drip going into her leg,and she's 14 years old now. ...Billy...
