Come on Geof why not ,sure isnt the crack great .Bring back the good old days.N by the way ,im sorry i had Milly measured at Chatsworth ,i think it was a case of who was windin who,but hey i had that old fiver spare anyway ,was just looking for somewhere to get rid of it .Think of the xtra exersise you got walkin to the top of the field n back down again. Hows things Geof ,still kikin ass i see, good man..
Apologies accepted, Billy I Would have had your dog measured if it had beaten our Milly :D and I didn't have two halfpennys to rub together :D many came to Chatsworth to win the racing but one thing stood in thier way! me, only a few did but then dogs have headache days too :D but there's a price to pay when your top dog ,so to speak .Yes you've guessed, jealous enemies! but they seemed to spur me on, even to this day

All the best Billy...........Geoff

Not all Whippet xGreyhouds are as crazy on the lamp as they are on the lure ,you do get the odd smart one who learns yo use the head instead of the heart although i must admit they are few and far between. The white bitch that i made the video of was one of these. She was actualy faster and gamer than her sister Tarn on the lure. That was until she recieved a few kikins at the end of a few races when they couldnt get the lure out of her mouth,as we until recently raced without mussles My bitches had never seen let alone wore a mussle untl their 1st race at Chatsworth, were i had to borrow one.The white bitch got an awful doin at one show on the way back down the field, and after that she began turning before the line and her maybe 10 or more lengths in front. Then she got that she wouldnt chace for more a hundred yards or so.She actualy got to the semi's in chatsworth and i dont think she was even chasing the thing. She ended up a pretty good bitch on the lamp, and knocked over quite a few hare's as well.In sayin that ,she was the only one i had who wouldnt take a fox. I can do you a copy of her lamping tape sometime as i now have it on DVD.As for hard or soft mouths, nearly all of mine retrieved live to hand, and were pretty valuble in that department. The white bitches rabbits were as healthy as any ferreted ones day or night, and she use to be used for catching livies for Springer Trials,if you know what these are ,This bitch line seemed to just keep throwing soft mouths ,but the dogs busted everything.Anyway, after being in Greyhounds for a few years now and having had to pay out quite a few large bills for dogs hurt in the field ,i might not give these pups too much hunting, but they will be out with the ferrets a few times as i believe it is the best way to sharpen a dog up as it helps to fine tune their reflexes to the lure moving,my opinion anyway..

Is this bitch of Joes a black bitch which ran at the Devon open at Cullompton last year Mark?

It is the black bitch. She as raced against Peggy and Rodders before

Iwould like to coclude last nights story. The other litter i bred frm my white bitch to Cornish Jack as we called him,(the repeat mating)were born, and there seemed to be no problems, other than we had to have the vet out to give her a jag of oxitosin to make her push harder as she was being a bit lazy on it.Anyway with the pups all born i cleaned the bitch up a bit ,changed the bedding and just spent the next few days watching the pups grow. That was until the 5th morning when we found the bitch trembling beneath the heating bulb .Imediately i thought of milk fever and put her in the car and headed for the vets ,thinking ,hear we go again .When we got there the vet asked me how old her pups were and did she put out all the afterbirths n stuff .I told him i thought so anyway ,but on examining her he knew something was wrong inside her and that this was an emergency and she would have to be opened up.I took a tin of Whelpi with me and left her there .About 2 hour's later the phone rang and it was the vet with very bad news. When they had oppened the bitch up they got quite a shock ,as they found a dead pup in the middle of her guts, and a great hole in her womb. The womb had to be removed ,the guts all takin out and washed ,then packed with antibiotics and shoved back in.They recond she wouldnt make it home ,but would i come and collect her anyway as they had no way of disposing with the body.So of i went to pick her up.I brought her home wrapped her in a quilt and spent the next few days just looking after her and praying to GOD not to take her .And would you believe it,on the forth day she wagged her tail at me ,im not ashamed to say it ,but i cried like a baby.Next day she was up on her feet and looking after her pups again(,what a mum).Unfortunately a few days after this ,she hemouraged and had to be rushed back to the vets. They were astonished that she had made it through the first ordeal, and again said she wouldnt make it.But it turned out that none of us new the size of the heart that was in there, and how strong a will she had to live and rear her baby's.So it was back home to the quilt again.Within a few hours we could see a difference in her ,and by night time she was cleaning her pups(.Who says miricles dont happen anymore),GOD still works in mysterious ways, believe me.She finished rearing her pups without another flutter, and rear them she did.It was them that i took to Chatsworth at 10 months old and won the simulated with one of them ,beatin her sister in the semi.there was also a big dog dog pup in the litter who looked like a big 3/4 bred collie x Greyhound n boy could he run .Unfotunately with me being banned from racing at the main clubs shows he never got much of a chance There was a big red dog winning the overs at the time and i had heard that nothin could get near him .I haddent been to a show for over a year ,but i had to get a look at this dog.I took ricky to the next show a week later. We reached the final although ricky hadnt raced since he was a pup,. over a year ago.Any way ,the lure moved ,Ricky moved, and within a few strides he was 3 lengths in front.Unfotunately the big red dog past him 3/4 of the way up the field and beat him .I took a bit of stick ,but you see my dog was totaly unfit and lure rusty.I just asked when the next show was and went home quietly. The next show was 3 weeks away and i can tell you ricky was a lot fitter and cleaned out.He was bouncin and to cut a long story short ,( cause im sure whoevers reading this is fed up by now)He won the final by 5 lengths, and i just turned round and said point proven .He won the next one too by even more.that was it for me it was time to hang up the boots as i wasnt keepin too well . Igave him away to a mate at the show ,he raced him a few times and won ,then he injured him on the lamp end of story...Next year i had a heart opp.I only started racing again last year with a 6 year old .And we won 3 of the 4 finals we reached beatin miss Torri the 3 times.( Might i add that she beat me the next time, and again at Stormydogs show at the end of the show season this year ).And winnin the overs too with Tara who is now 4 years old and last year had no racing experience. She even beat Maddy ,(sorry Darren)n took her unbeaten record away from her.Although Darren tells me that Maddy used to beat her by about 10 lengths before i got her,but then i have her from she was 11 months old so she must have been a verry young puppy when this happened.Anyway this is going the wrong way so i better stop before i offend someone(.Sorry if i have)But i hope you'se can see through this TRUE story that my sucsess did not come at an easy cost.My heart trouble was partly caused by stress(,i wonder where that would have come from)But hey, after 2 heart opps. The good LORD has given me the chance to come back into the game n with a bit o luck i might do OK.So i hope to see you all on the line in a yeaar or so's time .In the meantime all i can do is dwell in the past. So please dont try n take that away from as i aint letting go...... Times its old memories that keep us going....Billy Harpur...

Get to the back of the queue :D

Graham, what are you doing in the lurcher section? Gotta thank you and Mandy for all the hard work and effort you put into the rearing of your pups. The bottom line is Maddy has given me a few years of hard work, fun and sleepless nights and if it hadn't have been for you two they would never have happened. All the best for the future races in the bend season. When the results are printed on the non ped section i'm always looking for you and Gary Farmers names.

Billy no offense taken...enjoyed the chat with you on the phone. Why don't you give Billy Craig a call sometime.

Welcome to K9 Billy,I see you've settled in easily  Enjoyed reading your comments :D but I have to disagree with working a whippet/greyhound,at least one for racing.Don't know what you call a whippet/greyhound over in Ireland but we call them 'Do or die merchants'.Don't get me wrong the odd accidental run can't be helped,or even a bit of ferreting to help keen an unwilling chaser, but to lamp a whippet/greyhound I think is asking for trouble.I've been there and done that, watched a dog stoop to pick up a rabbit while running flat out.The following tumbles of the dog are not a pretty site, and to be honest a dog thats rag crazy doesn't give you an edible rabbit especially if another dog is in the viscinity.
Can't wait to see yours pups next year in the simmo Mark.Being Collie crosses and having a bit of brain means I think you are gonna have a few problems with the gates :- "

:D Karen

WELL KAREN TELL ME WHY THEY WON MORE SIMULATED EVENTS THEN ANY OTHER DOGS THIS YEAR NOT BECAUSE THERE COLLIE XS, AND WHY AS PUPS HAVE THEY NEVER LOST A PUP RACE WINNIN A LOT OF TRACK RACIN GREYHOUND WHIPPETS IN THE UNDERS LIKE YOUNG JOES DOG BOTH OF MIKE PALMERS DOGS BEATING PHIL FOWLERS PUPS AT MIDLAND AND HUNDREDS OF OTHERS AND THERE COLLIE XS ON PAPER THEY SHOULDNT OF WON WHAT THEY HAVE EVEN BEATIN PAUL JAMES PUPS WHEN HIS GREYHOUND PUPS WERE 5 MONTH OLDER AND DONT FORGET THERE COLLIEXS BUT BLOODY GOOD ONES AT THAT

Tara was 14 months or even older when Maddy was beating Tara by 10 lengths or more. It was me who brought Tara home with me when she was approx 8 weeks. I brought her back with me from Chatsworth at the beginning of september. It was the following year at the end of september at the All Irelands when Maddy beat her by that margin.

Mark for christ sake give it a rest  Oh and a little message from Jerry. She said it was her pup you beat and her words "She doesn't give a bloody s..t"Seems folk in Cornwall have got ear ache aswell :D

All I meant by my comment was.Working dogs especially Collie Xs soon get wise to simmo so there's every possibility they'll start missing the gates.

Your pups have run really well for you  nobody has said they haven't,but there's only so much bragging you can do and I think you've pushed yours to the limit.Best wishes for next year :D Karen

I bought Tara from Criss on 2 nd of August 2003 .The reason i know this is because she was bought for my daughter Shelley's 18th birthday as she wanted a dog of her own again.I knew Criss was for selling Tara to a man in Derry who had previously bought the big white Star dog from him.I also knew what happened to that dog,(eg,starved to death, truth.)and wasnt prepaired to see that happen again. So i felt that this would be a good dog for Shelley. When i actualy went to pick the bitch up ,i was somewhat shocked at the thin the dog was ,but then i thought it was maybe the kind of her,and knew that i could soon sort the weight out.The bitch actualy got worse a lot worse ,before he got better.I even phoned Criss to see what he fed her and even with the same grub she still wouldnt eat.But any way ,when i bought her Criss told me she was about 11 months old,and if you say that she was say 2 months old when you brought her over. Then that would have left her being born about the beginning of August. So she was actualy just about 12 months old and Criss wasnt that far out, maybe a couple of weeks or so.Come on now Darren do youre homework. If as you say she was 14 months (or more),when Maddy was beatin her by 10 lengths (or more),then she had to be 4 1/2 to 5 months old when you brought her over.If you say you brought her over from Chatsworth then there can be no mistake as to the date, and i know exactly to the very hour that i bought her from Criss, then she was definately between 11 and 12 months old.Sorry Darren,Fact is fact.So Tara was a pup of some sort when Maddy was leading her a merry dance up the field, and in my oppinion Darren ,not ready, and missing a lot of power and speed. Please axept my appology for posting this here, iguess i shoud have PM you instead, but by the time i realised what i was doing i had almost finished and as i am only learning to type i am using one finger and this has taken for ever....Billy

Please accept my apology Billy, just checking my dates. The 2003 All Irelands were run on the 7th of September and i don't see any mention of Chris or Sky so it seems that he had decided to call it a day before then. Very surprised to hear that Tara was in poor condition when you bought her because Chris looked after his dogs very well. Maybe she went through a bad patch as i know some of my own dogs look poor at times and i havn't changed anything in their rountine. I still believe that anyone who is solely interested in straight racing are mad to hunt their dogs whether by day or night.

I HOPE THIS SITE IS,NT GOING THE SAME AS ALL THE OTHERS WITH ALL THE CHEWING GOING ON, IVE PACKED 2 SITES IN THIS YEAR, THE NAME OF THE SITE SAYS IT ALL, K9 COMMUNITY. jeff :(

Don't worry Jeff lurcher owners know how to have a laugh :D How's the new pups? :D Karen

Just noticed another of the racers from a few years ago as logged onto K9.

Welcome to K9 Mike  :D Karen

Yes Jeff, you have no worries there with us Lurcher folk. To be honest i've enjoyed this thread..the craic has been great and the next time we all meet we'll be shaking hands and extolling our dogs, at the same time muttering under out breaths that the other is talking a load of nonsense... or am i the only sad person who does that. Havn't done any hunting this year but over here in Northern Ireland the weather has been super at night for lamping. Wet, windy and raining....mmmmm maybe go and check what condition the lamp is in...tempting tempting.
