Hi All,

I need some advise before I go insane!!! Chance came into season 12 day's ago I kept a close eye on her and Binx (even though Binx is sterile) it doesn't stop him trying and he's marking up her back legs trying to hump her,

so I've put Chance into another room and left Binx and Indi together, the problem now is Binx is constantly whinning (and it's really loud!), trying to escape to get to Chance, has not eaten for 2 day's since I separated them and is totally driving me MAD!! no sleep, no rest, stress over him not eating! ARGHHHHH!!!!!

I haven't got anyone around here who will take him for a few day's either, my bro did try it but brought him back after 5 hours of constant whinning and howling!

HELP!!!!

All part of the joys of owning dogs and bitches together, I'm afraid. Why do you think he is sterile?? Even castrated dogs will mate bitches but usually are a little more laid back about the whole season and are only interested when the bitch is ready for mating. Make ideal teasers!!

Thanks Dessie,

Binx has 2 retained testical's so is sterile, even though it doesn't stop him trying to hump her every time she stands up!!

looks like I'll have to just put up with it :(

Probably for this season!!

I would suggest that when she has her next season you separate them straight away, with dogs who really stress I have found this to be better than leaving them a week or so, and, if possible, don't have them in adjacent rooms. Alternatively, could Chance stay with someone else whilst in season??

Chance wouldn't stay with anyone, she won't even go for a walk without me, she run's home!

Chance has season's every 10 months so by the next one, Binx will have had his op to remove his retained testies, so hopefully that should calm him down a bit, thanks for the advise though

Dogs are strange little creatures aren't they!!! Lenny (also 2 retained nuts) tries to hump Molly all the time and she has been spayed. I think she secretly likes it, great excuse for another fight

Remember, he may have retained nuts (therefore most probably sterile), but he still has HORMONES :D

Hi Tina

Even after hes had them removed I cant see it stopping him trying to hump her.

I have heard of dogs who have been neutered mating a bitch and even tying, obviously no puppies.

This is the reason we dont keep dogs and bitches!!

I'm begining to see why Dawn, Binx is a nightmare at the moment! we have borrowed a cage and put Binx into it so he can still be close to Chance but still the howling and whining continues! it's driving ALL of us up the wall!!!!!

well I've gone and done it now rather than later, Binx is at the vet's for his nut's off tomorrow, the house is so quiet and peaceful it's bliss! -_-

I know he'll proberly still try and hump her, but at least it will only be now and then and not every five min's,

I feel it's the best for him and her, as he was really getting stressed out and with him off his food too I was getting stressed, Chance was getting stressed also with Binx hassleing her,

I just hope now that the vet's don't get stressed with him howling and whining all night!

What a nightmare they can be these bloody hormones  ...... :luck: Little Binxs .......and have a peaceful day or 2 Tina and Chance :huggles:

I was ok this time Tina as kane didn't seem to get to grips with it when spry came, I thnk it will be different next time (w00t)

I was thinking would that bitch spray work maybe  the stuff that dims the scent, just an idea it might make no difference whatsoever but you never know

Good luck to Binxy tomorrow :huggles: :huggles: and I hope it's sorts the problem for you

Like Lesleys house - it was OK this time when Buffy came into season, but Im dreading the next one as Merlin has become completley obsessed with the ladies - in season or not hes not fussy (w00t) , so he will be having a holiday at his brother and sisters house hopefully :sweating:

With regards to dogs after neutering - Jack still mated and tied with Buffy long after he was neutered and I had turned my back for less than ten seconds

Hope everything goes OK with his op :luck:

First time around we didn't seperate them straight away and it drove the boys nuts :b and it got a bit tense between Leon and Picco until we seperated Teasel from them them and cleaned every single thing she'd come into contact with

This time around as soon as she showed any signs she was whisked away to our bedroom for her little holiday :D we even changed clothes if we'd been with her upstairs so the boys wouldn't smell her :b

The boys didn't get stressed at all  no howling, whining or bad tempers  no more than usual anyway  Picco occasionally sat by the door with a longing look in his eyes but that was about as bad as it got :clown:

Cheers

Steve

Good luck for today Binx :luck: :luck: :luck:

Please let me know how the op goes Tina, you know how worried I am about Lenny and his missing nuts!!! I have cancelled 2 scheduled ops cos I don't want to send him :b

Yes thats how its done in this house too ! Plus the girlie use the front garden, boys the back....... so no nice scents to sniff either !

thanks for the replies and well wishes for Binx, Lesley, Jones, this is only Chances second season also, I thought because Binx didn't bother on her first one he'd be ok with this one too! how stupid was I (w00t) I got it in my head that because he has 2 nuts retained it wouldn't bother him like ''normal'' dogs!

Dawn I'm hoping your wrong, I really am! but as you have alot more experiance than me with whippets, I'm dreading it again now :(

spoke to a breeder friend of mine yesterday and he said it's not just Binx being horny it's because him and Chance have NEVER been apart also, he's pining for her and that's why he's howling and whining so much, even though he was still with Indi, the bond between Chance and Binx is really strong, they have been going in huge sulks when I have been walking them separate!

Chance has never whined though or barked or howled, I've tryed that spray aswell to mask Chances smell, didn't work!

I will let you all know how he is later

Jezza, because Binx's retained nuts are in his groin area, my vet said they will treat it as a bitch having a spay, and go from there, he said it's nothing to worry about it's only if they are somewhere else and they have to root around for them that they have trouble with, thank god for that at least!

Thanks for that Dessie

I know what you're saying tina about the bond I think that was the hardest thing for us too, spry and kane always sleep together and although he didn't seem to show any interest it would have been stupid to leave them together overnight so I had to seperate them to different crates and kane looked at me as if "what have I done wrong" it was awful :( after a few nights he got used to it but those first few were awful :(

How is Binx Tina is it done?? :huggles:

Binx arrived home yesterday at 7pm, (supposed to be 3pm) he had a tough time :(

he's very sore and feeling sorry for him self, I'm also upset that I had to put him through this, if he was born with his balls in the right place this wouldn't have happened, and I wouldn't have had to put him through the pain and suffering that he's feeling now! (my personnel opinion)

my vet said that the cords that attach to his balls were the shortest he's ever seen and there was NEVER a chance of them ''dropping'' my vet said he would goto court to testifiy that Binx was born with abnormally short cords that's how confident he is about this :(

well what's done is done, Binx will be his old self in a few day's hopefully, plus on a lighter note, he's whined a couple of times for Chance but that's it!!!! :D and he's eating normally too and not stressing out like he was before which makes me happier, I deffo think that I did the right thing for both of us

Lesley, the bond will grow as they get older and it will be harder for Kane and Spry, but with Kane having the other girls with him aswell it might not be as bad (hopefully) I deffo sympathize with you! I'll NEVER get another male with a bitch EVER again!! (w00t)

I'm just glad it's all over now and done, I don't have to stress about him getting cancer in the future either.
