there not a lurcher as there not crossed with a hearding dog. They are a long dog but only of a certin cross so they cant call it long dog racing eather as say a saluki x greyhound would not be abell to race.

We've had this argument a thousand times wunwin, see old posts.

One rule that would stop all the confusion would be to bring back 21"rule for up to 36" and for 40LD-no limit up to 23" (JUST MY OPPION) :D

one thing i don't agree with is breeding with a whippet x greyhound to a full greyhound but that's my personal opinion :- "
i know that will be a sore point with some racers but it's what i think :- "

I agree but then no limit racing is highly unlikely to affect me so i keep out lol

there you have the same problem what do you do with the pup you have bred and is 36 lb and over 21" and same for the overs

I SAY LEAVE WELL ALONE :luck: :luck:

I don't have big uns so carn't really say owt. But as an out sider as to say I hear a lot of people who have a dog just over the 40lb mark who have to race no limit and they say they don't like racing with something 50-60lb.

Simple have 36, 40, 50 and no limit. Easyer to make a new weight group than tell people what size there dogs should be.

personally i think the majority of greyhounds are well bred,i remember years ago there was a greyhound called brown sugar could'nt catch a cold but when it was lined with a whippet i.e. mr benn, bonnie tinker, nott free. she produced some very good dogs.

YOU CANT GET TO 5/8,3/8 OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND WITHOUT GOING GREYHOUND A FEW TIMES.EVEN TO BREED TWO 3/4 BREDS TOGETHER YOU HAVE TO HAVE USED FOUR GREYHOUNDS,PREFERABLY ALL BITCHES,AS I BELIEVE THIS WAY THROWS THE FASTER LINE.I HAVE BEEN BREEDING WHIPPETXGREYHOUNDS FOR OVER 20 ODD YEARS AND FIND 5/8 G 3/8 W TO BE THE BEST ALL ROUND CROSS,MY BEST 3/4 BREDS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN 3/4 TO 3/4 BRED.THESE WERE MY BEST RACE DOGS TOO . BUT EVERYONE HAS THERE PREFERENCE . MINE WORKED FIRST THEN RACED.BUT NOW THAT IM A BIT OLDER AND WISER ,I DONT THINK THEY'LL WORK AS MUCH ANYMORE,CAUSE MANY A GOOD RACING DOG CAN BE FINNISHED BEFORE HE GETS STARTED.MY SECOND YEAR TO GO TO CHATSWORTH I FORGOT THE DOGS GRUB AND WENT LAMPING ON THE WAY DOWN FROM STRANREAR TO CARLISLE WITH MY RACING BITCHES. KILLED 18 BUNNIES AND MADE MY WAY TO CHATSWORTH TO RACE IN THE MORNING.A HEADCASE I KNOW ,BUT SURE LOOK WHERE I COME FROM.IF YOU ASK PAT MATHEWS HE'LL BACK THIS STORY UP.I HAVE A LITTER AT THE MINUTE 6 WEEKS OLD ,OUT OF A BROTHER OF MINSTER ROCKET TO A SPIRAL NIKITA BITCH,AND THE SIZE DIFFERENCE IS UNBELIEVABLE . ONE OF THE DOGS IS ALMOST TWICE THAT OF ANOTHER,IM TRYING AT THE MINUTE TO WORK OUT EXACTLY THE %AGE AS I INTEND PUTTING THE SMALLEST ONE OVER MY 23 INCH BITCH OUT OF SILVER, WHO IS OUT OF JACK(CORNISH BOBS BROTHER)TO MY TARN BITCH,4 YEARS ALL IRELAND CHAMPION,BOTH 3/4 BREDS.JACK WON THE ALL IRELAND OVERS TOO SO THEY SHOULD BE DECENT PUPS.SILVER WAS BEAT IN THE FINAL AT CHATSWORTH DUE TO A CAREAR ENDING INJURY.ANYWAY IVE SAID FAR TO MUCH HERE AND I CAN HARDLY SEE THE LETTERS ON THIS KEYBOARD SO GOODNIGHT AND SAFE RACIN

CAN YOU LET ME KNOW IN YOUR OPINION WHO WAS THE DADDY OF CHATSWORTH

Do i take it, in my ignorance of the non ped scene, that a non ped whippet is infact a lurcher? A whippit X greyhound? Why call it non ped then, why not lurcher racing?
Cause a WhippetxGreyhound is firstly not a Lurcher ,it is a Longdog, bred from two sight hounds. Secondly as far as i know, they are raced at tracks and have to come out of traps, just like Greyhounds. Now i am no authority at all on none peds ,but i have kept and raced WhippetxGreyhounds for over 20 years and only found out about none ped racing myself about 6 or 7 years ago.I have always had to race mine at Lurcher shows as we dont have none ped racing in N,Ireland...Billy harpur...

I WOULD RATHER WATCH PAINT DRY :p GARY

Suppose im meant to say Fletch here aint i.Well i suppose he was the few years i was over anyways. Some say he had the luck with him,but if that was the case the rest of us could say that we were unlucky.See,thing is i dont believe in luck.At times shit happens at other times it dont. Its first dog or bitch over the line, dont matter about the rest.Only problem i would have with Chatsworth is location & distance.100 yds is not a race, full stop.It might be for Terriers or something but not Lurchers.Miss youre slip & there's not time to scratch youre arse, for youre dog to come from behindIused to give dogs 5 or 6 lengths for badness n still beat them by a distance, but that was when i had a decent bitch, there not as fast over here anymore.(workin on this one at the moment) I trained for 3 .to 5 hundred yds.I only got one chance against fletch in the final and he beat me,good on him.He was the first to ever beat me in 7 years of racing ,so again i say good on him.I could use excuses like travellin n stuff or as i said last night about lamping my bitches on the way down the night before, but hey that was my choice.and like i said its first dog over finnishin line, all excuses are left behind startin line.dont forget that out of the few times that some of us traveled over to chatsworth, the big one did come back a couple of times.Eg,Nigel Greer,1st n 2nd,i think both days, overs,Darren with Maddy, overs,Billy Craig,i think 2nd with Dell Boy,and myself(,when there was a decent amount of dogs to race)reaching 3 finals in racing. 2 unders and i over.My black bitch didnt race in her final due to my Silver dog being injured in his final, but she won all her heats very convincingly ,so we'll never know,( so did Silver) .And that was after runnin in sim n getting beat by her sister in semi. Her sister went on to win sim,n got beat in final next day. So not a bad effort from the Ulster boys.Problem is ,i dont see to many English men coming over here to have a go at our big one ,eg the ALL IRELAND FINALS,or are you all affraid of a real race,500yds maybe 3 times if there's enough dogs, used to be 4 times.OK im throwin down the gauntlit here, the challenge is made ,we took you'se on in youre back garden ,now step into ours...Billy Harpur....PS I know this is the wrong forum for this, but it was here i was asked about the king of Chatsworth, and hey ,this is where all the fast dogs reside,eg Milly & co.Also where do the Palmers & mathews brothers fair in all this King of Chatsworth thingy, cause i heard a lot of talk about them, before i went over, but not Fletch..

Thanks, that is a good point! So what non ped is really, is good fast dog racing for the 'ordinary ' person, as opposed to a licenced grey trainer?

I think this is one of the problems with the sport today Vicky. A certain number of those that have been racing for a long time always refer back to "the good old days" but seem unwilling to lead by example and show the newer racers like myself just how it should be done. I know a certain number of older racers aim to do this so I'm not pointing the finger at anyone.

Another thing that gets me is the feuds that run for decades, it's more than once I've heard "when he/she had such and such a dog in the 70's and my mate had so and so a dog ... and he did this ... she said that ... her dog this ... his dog that ... and THEN when I had such and such in the 80's and his/her dog couldn't beat mine and he did this ... she did that ... and now they're doing it again ..." Change the record is the right turn of phrase.

I know some people like to hold grudges but I see each new dog as a new challenge, each race as a new competition and if I come up against the same owners several years in racing and I get beat by their dog then so be it. But one day I'll be lucky enough to get the right dog, with the right breeding and give it the right training and then it'll be my turn to have a few wins (one lives in hope)

Right I'm climbing off my soap box now :b . Here's from the "good old days" and forwards into the "brighter better future".
