On Monday Cloud broke 2 ribs and punctured his lung. We assume he ran into a tree in the woods we were walking in.

We very nearly lost him {again}!

Has this happened to anyone else's Whippets?

 omg, no advice but i hope your babies back to full health soon

poor Cloud, I hope he's alright , sounds nasty, he must be really sore

:luck: speedy recovery, gentle :huggles: :huggles:

My spaniel did the same thing, nothing we could do just take it easy (she ran into a bolt on a fence post and ripped her chest open at the same time) within 4 weeks she was back in gundog scurries.

Sure your dog will be fine with a bit of tlc.

sounds painful, poor Cloud

gentle hugs :huggles: :luck:

I dont know if this counts Kris, but my Chip who is not with us now was attacked by a staffy cross in the year 2000.

He had 4 broken ribs which were permanently wired together, and a punctured lung also which had to be repaired with tissue from elsewhere in his body.

He was 8 when the attack happened and he lived another 4 1/2 years. It did slow him down a lot, he wasnt able to run for long, so it meant shorter walks ..... but he did live as normal a life as was possible. He was on medication too for most of this time.

I also took him to a homeopethist who perscribed him something for shock and trauma - and this really helped too.

Good luck with your dog, I hope once over the initial trauma will go on to make a full recovery. :luck:

:( poor cloud hope he gets better soon good :luck: :luck:

:( :luck: wish you all the best with clouds recovery :luck:

this reminds me of the vets words"make sure you get him insured"as according to him whippets are quite prone to injurys as they are pretty fearless and easily get hurt while chasing things.he said he has lost count of the amount of whippets that he has stitched up due to chasing a rabbit into a barbed wire fence ;) looks like i had better get myself something sorted out for when his 6 weeks free insurance runs out.

Marks and Spencers is very good and competitevely priced - about £10.60 a month for £7k of cover AND NO EXCESS TO PAY!! (can do it online and make sure you select NO EXCESS)

We have only been insured 2 months with our pup Kiah but have had a £160 bill for xrays, painkillers, AB`s etc.

As you say Whippets are accident/injury prone and need insuring - you wont regret it

I think there was another thread elsewhere about how M&S rates had gone up recently. I calculated it for mine and it was between £244 and £268 per annum each for mine. It is much less for crossbred dogs (although lurchers came out in the same band as whippets).

just started a new policy with asda, came out at £10.95 a month for the platinum policy which gives £6000 for each illness with no time limits and with a £50 excess.the only one slightly cheaper was more than which was about £10 a month but with a minimum £75 or 15% excess.
