i think ecksey  suffers with cramp, :(

he occasionally wakes up crying in pain :( , but if i rub his leg muscles is relieves it, so i was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how we could prevent this from happening.

Thank you

Hi, does this happen during the night or anytime of day, maybe he's cold, do you give him any oil capsules, you only think its cramp, maybe its the vet he needs

:luck:

hi keith,

thank you for your reply,

it can happen any time of the day, i dont think he is cold, he is always covered up with a duvet, although he does wriggle out of it!!! no i dont give him any kind of oil capsules, what would these do??? i dont think he needs a vet as it only seems to happen occasionally, and with a nice rub it is gone in about a minute, and doesnt bother him when he is active, only when he is resting, i wondered if is was "pins and needles!!".

thanks again,

hiya,

one of my girls suffered from cramp a couple of times, a friend suggested giving vitamin c (i give my girls one 60mg tablet a day) i also feed them half a banana each and havent had a problem with it since.

These help with racing dogs who tend to cramp when racing.

Bananas

Apple cider vinegar

Tinned tomatoes

My old greyhound girl used to get cramp from time to time - and the fuss she made, you'd think she was being murdered. I usually found if I got her up and moving (tempted by a treat, usually) it passed pretty quickly.

Strangely enough as she got older and I started giving her glucosamine supplements for her joints the cramps seemed to stop.

Some sighthounds seem very prone to cramp - high potassium foods such as bananas and tinned tomatoes are supposed to help.

when dobby cramps after racing jac gives him tinned tomatoes

We gave our "cramping Greyhounds" cider vinegar added to their food but they only cramped after racing or free running ......I'd go and see Sandra if I was you dear .... :luck: :luck: Hannah xx
