i've been feeding the nursing dog last couple weeks a mix of dry puppy food with tinned and some raw chicken as well.

shes constantly hungry, and poos about 20 times a day, no joking

doesnt matter how much i feed her, its in one end and out the other.

my OH brought me the bag of dry food home, and put it into the large bin where i kept the dry food

it looks like jollyes own brand or something similar, chicken flavour. its getting mixed with tinned butchers tripe & chicken.

shes very thin, and with the constant eating and constant crapping.

i was just going to cut out the dry & tinned all together,

and feed her a complete raw diet.

she devours the raw chicken shes given at the moment

can i do this? and can i wean the pups onto raw?

they are 3 1/2 weeks, have been eating mashed puppy dry with some tinned butchers.

but they did go crazy for the chicken wing that fell into their box (w00t)

they have teeth, and they wouldnt let it go when i tried to get the chicken wing off them :teehee:

can i use raw for the pups if its minced or blended down in the blender?

I feed raw to all my dogs - a completely natural way of eating.

Molly's pups were weaned straight onto raw. They never had anything else (other than scrambled eggs made with goats milk) and Molly used to regurgitate half her raw evening meal for them if I allowed it

I fed Molly as much as she wanted to eat throughout the time the pups were on her, she had at least 4 meals a day. She had raw mince made up by my butcher which contains all the offcuts from the butchery (offal, fat, meat etc) together with minced green tripe (Freeflow), chicken wings, rabbit and raw rib or marrow bones. I also get chicken carcasses from the butcher and the pups tucked into those once they got to 6 weeks.

I started by putting a plate of butcher's mince and tripe down for the pups and varied it by adding lamb mince occasionally. I cut the chicken wings into pieces and they wolfed those down, no problem :D

I should say that I do pre-freeze all the raw meat I feed as this destroys any undesirable organisms in the meat.

The pups also had tripe sticks for something to chew on, rather than their mum!!

First taste of solid food ..............

All my pups went onto raw/BARF when they came here too...Kobi was on a dry diet with his breeder, Oscar on Raw...

Archie on dried...Flint who is 9 weeks today was on a complete diet with the breeder too...and went straight onto raw

when he came to me too.

This is him enjoying his chicken wing at 8 weeks.....

Hi,

My new pup,Louis is fed mainly raw tripe, and minced chicken. He only poohs about 3 times a day.Its the most natural diet to give them.I do give Royal Canin pup dried, but he leaves it and wolfs the meat instead.

Hope this helps.

thanks everyone

i do like the raw diet, and will start the pups on the minced stuff today

i do usually buy frozen anyway, so any nasties are killed off

Health go's in through the mouth, you must give your bitch and pups the best possible all my pups go straight on to raw from 4 weeks, i nwould get more quality raw into the bitch and also start to supplement with eggs and milk (goats) if the bitch is struggling to keep weight on i give extra feeds during the day of corn beef cubed and hand fed and evaporated milk

Pups on raw and mums condition at 6weeks

All my dogs are fed on raw, when i had a litter nearly two years ago they were also reared on raw meat alongside, goats milk and scrambled eggs.I also freeze the meat first and thoroughly defrost it.

I fed the mother and the pups on minced beef today and they loved it

i also added egg and some brown bread for the mother.

she also got some raw meat, and a huge turkey leg!

ive bought liver, chicken, turkey and some lamb and have frozen them.

the pups loved the mince mixed in with a little butchers tripe mix

i also have the mother on frozen tripe, rabbit and turkey.

i've also added some rice & pasta to her diet.

hopefully she will be better off on this diet, and see something stick to her stomach!

These puppies are so sweet, you are doing well.

My puppy is now 13 weeks, I've been feeding him on tripe and chickhen mince with bone in it morning and evening ! along with poridge for lunch with an egg and natural yogart Brewers yeast tab, and kelp and apple cider vinegar with the meat meals, also I give him sardines in sunflower oil too but having probs a bit with the biscuit side of it, he will lick the biscuit clean!! only some times will he eat it. but he has bags of energy though . by the way he is a greyhound/border collie 1st crossing. does anyone see a problem with this sort of diet please??

Starting dogs early on a raw dog food diet will allow them to gain the most benefit from this type of diet. If you can get them on this type of diet from puppy-hood, that would be the best.
