Futher to my post oh my oh my oh my....... I forgot to mention......!

Casper seems to have gone totally bald on his tum tum :( . As in on his belly he has no hair at all, just pink skin. He also has a bald patch on his tail, and under his chin seems to have lost hair. Its not coming out in tufts, just seems to have happened gradually.

There is no apparent reason for this, he dosnt itch or apprear in discomfort of any kind. Pimms hasnt got this so its not infectious.

Could this be as a result of stress? Or am I totally off the ball with this? He dosnt get washed often and I cant think of any other reason.... :( .

Please help my threadbare boy!

:huggles:

Hiya,

My Molly is like that too completely bald on her belly and on her bum but I wouldn't put it down to stress as she is not nervous or stressed at all :D oh she also is slightly bald on her throat but not her tail.

My other dog Lenny is a very nervous and stressed dog and he has loads of hair

I think this baldness can be a problem in a lot of whippets and greyhounds. Don't know why, could be genetic as Mollys litter brother is also bald in the same places. I would be interested to know if the next litter (same dam and sire) have had any problems (Indee if your reading???).

If you look on previous topics there was an alopeacia (sp) questionnaire for some scientific study so I guess it can be quite common.

I'll see if I can find the links for you

My Dolly is the same!! She has lost the hair on her tummy and a large patch on the underside of her neck. I don't know why it happened either!! She seems to be ok though and has been like this for ages!! Sorry i'm no help!! Mojo has no problem apart from a tiny patch on his back!! If anyone has any tips or info for us both I would be really grateful as I have wondered for a while why this has happened to Dolly!!

Coat condition

If this works it takes you to a thread which I started a while ago about baldness with some pics of Mollys baldness! (page 3 I think). Some suggestions were that it could be hormonal as the fur started falling out after she was spayed (also to her brother after he was castrated). But saying that, I know loads of people who have had their whippets spayed and not had a problem!

I just think that its one of those things and still love her little baldness just the same as I did before

my two girls are bald on their neck under their chin, and dont think its their collars because they only have them on for about 2 hours a day.

their bellies have a very fine down so could almost say they was bald there too :) they also have the same parents.

kiplin is the opposite very hairy with long fur all over but that might be to do with his age and having more protection for his first winter.

Thanks thus far people  . I was just worried about his wee tum tum, Pimms as a fairly thick coat all over, including her tum (w00t) .

Must be awful chilly for them to go out and about with naked tummies out walkies at this time of year :( . Both of mine wear jackets, but Caspers one dosnt cover his tum. Hmmmm!

My Rupert has the same problem, hes getting very bold, the vet told me it was seasonal allopecia as the fur does come back in the warmer weather.

Well Caspers has got worse over the winter, poor love was shivering in the house the other day even though the heating was on :( .

Can anyone send me the link for laineys jumpers as cant find it on google today (w00t) .

:huggles:

Laneys jumpers

Here's a link to the site. I got Molly a jumper from k9 knitters, some pics on here somewhere.

Shivering whilst inside with the heating on? Probably just for sympathy

My little Daisy has baldiness on her neck, tummy, temples and thighs bless her. It happened last winter as well and grew back in spring, I'm hope the same happens this spring but in the mean time it is very kissable. Moz has no hair loss at all.

On really chilly days I put a jumper on under her coat, my mum knitted her this one
