Ruby and Star have 1 collar each  yes be shocked!!, well actually they have one collar each that fits, and a couple that should fit when there all growd up lol.

the thing is i love the collars they have (thanks alfyn) but as they are wearing them all the time, they are rather grubby and frayed. not the collars faulty as it has stood the test of strength and work perfect, just doesnt look as good as it did.

im so tempted to buy them new ones as there are so many lovely ones on here at the min, but i would really prefer to get one that will look good a little longer than what these ones have, and then once they have stopped growing to spend loads of money on fancy ones. :- "

so what would be best? leather?

they have leather ones but they are adult whippet size and still far to big, so where could i get pup size?

or does anyone have any other suggestions

Look on the pinned ads, there are some lovely leather ones for pups.

Leather or just a simple hard wearing martingale - plain webbing for example.

They are perfect for everyday walks etc

can you put matringale ones on pups? sorry dont know much about them :b

Yep, Diego has a little 1 inch martingale collar that was only a few £'s. Just the job for a little one

I personally do not have collars on around the house very often, so don't have the problem of them getting too worn anyway. They have walk collars and collars for best (going to shows)

I think its all down to personal taste Katie really. Ive always prefered leather, although I must admit have been tempted by martingales and other lovely collars on here and do own quite a few too... :- " :- " but must admit they sit in a drawer most of the time...and the trusted leather ones come out for every day walks..I love them.

But I must admit if I had pretty little  girls like your two...Id be tempted to have a few girly pink sparkly ones too..as spares of course..

I got the boys 2 gorgeous leather collars. Pax's is dark brown leather with a celtic motif embossed on it and Zulu has a black one with stars embossed on it. They are also lined with sheepskin and beautifully soft for thier necks.

The best thing was they make them to fit from 10.5 inches so they will be big enough for the girls to wear them now. If you like I will pm you the website.

It is all down to personal taste. I just find that leather collars wear patches of the boys fur away. Diesel has never worn a leather collar and I don't really feel inclined to go in that direction.

i find this to with my ollie and poppy if they wear the leather ones they get a bit bald on the neck ,until i got some of debs ther hard wearing leather but very soft ballerina leather and dont tend to rub the fur away but tia and blue dont seem to have that prob so i can put pretty much anything on them ,we only have one or two collars per dog one for getting muddy and wet in and some for best and few for well whatever :- "

Please can I have that website too Lynne

I bought a soft leather puppy collar from Venture Coats at a show when Fred was a pup. It finally wore out 8 years later. :) He's only on his 2nd leather collar at 11.5 years old.

I did splash out last Christmas and bought him a festive snowman fabric collar from Nicky (which I love), but that's for Christmas best only.

I can't say I've noticed a bald patch on his throat, but they have been nice soft leather collars that I've used.

Mine have never ever had bald patches on their necks with their leather collars.. but I only use their collars on walks...they never wear collars in the house at all... :)

im now all confussed i dont know what 2 get

i just want somthing that is still going to look good, after rough and tumble in a couple of months time, they are quite bad for chewing each others this is why they have frayed, hmmm!! im going to have to think on this some more :b

Maybe that's why then. :)

Leather best for me too although Phoebs has a lovely fabric one for if we are just going on a short walk to the pub or out to visit friends or family when I want to show her off  . The fabric ones apparently wash well if you pop them in a pillow case or similar first. I like the easiness of leather - just buckle on and off with no fiddling to fit them over the head, I too only put them on for walks so leave the leads attached to the collar and then take them off in one go and hang them up.

Skye has a leather one from the market place - Dawn makes them that fit pups or italian greyhounds, that is another option to google 'italian greyhound collars' as they will fit pups  .

It's one of the joys of whippet ownership imo the collar dilemma - how many, what type, what colour, brass or nickel fittings etc etc

My 9 month Whippy has the leather sheepskin lined collar with stars mentioned on this thread, lovely collar but i have noticed his fur has worn away too ( he only wears it for walks - nothing in the house) then i saw the Puppia harnesses you put on your pups and remembered i have one i used for my previous dog (parson jrt), never thought it would fit as he is a Whip, but it is perfect and we use it for lead walks - no pulling and no worn fur. :)

I have a fabric one at the moment for lucy which is very pretty but is a bit difficult getting it on and off over her head. I had a regular leather one that I got in the local petshop first and I found it did rub on Lucys neck and cause a little fur loss. I have just ordered a pretty pink SOFT leather one from exmoore lurchers. I think someone on here has them for their whippets. :)
