Buddy is an 11 month old Collie cross Greyhound who has had a bit of a life so far to say the least! He was was stolen at 4 weeks from his mum and sold, at 4 months old he was found by the police tied up in a kitchen. He had never been outside or taught to walk on the lead before the lady who rescued him took him in and gave him all the affection and confidence he needed however she didn’t know how to train him, unfortunately she went through a difficult patch and asked if we could take him for re-homing.
Buddy is lovely however he needs a owner who is willing to take on a project because some of his issues are not going to go over night and are going to take repetition to solve, for instance he pulls on the lead and has paddy’s if he can see other dogs to play with and can’t get off, however after being tied up for so long he panics if the lead tightens on him, we also believe he has been beaten because if he feels you getting frustrated with him he panics and wants to run away.
We now have him in a halti which has improved this by at least 50%, however he is also going through his teens and although when off the lead he wont bolt off he wont let you catch him (it took me an hour the other day, we tried everything treats, toys etc!!lol) he thinks it is one big game and again if he thinks your getting frustrated with him, he then wont let you catch him because I think he thinks he is going to get a smack.
In the house he is a star, he has a fascination with taking his bed outside in the garden and although he is chewing as long as you provide him with enough toys and chews he wont touch anything else, he is a typical sight hound in the fact that he will raid a kitchen if he gets the opportunity and he is not good with small furries. Buddy currently lives with children who are 12+ and he has been fantastic, he is brilliant with other dogs, wants to chase horses like mad (I think that is the Collie in him!).
I know he sounds like a challenge but he is only a baby and he has been through hell and back and I think he will make an amazing boy if someone has got the time and patience to get through his issues with him, he loves to chase and was very proud of himself when he caught a rabbit the other day (it was full of mixi and a bit of an easy catch!!) he chases the lure and seems to enjoy the game and once you get him focused and enjoying himself he will do anything for you
