Hi there all, start of the show season drawing near and I am preparing the above show for its third year. I know quite a few members of Hunting Life attend and I wanted to give you all a chance to put foward any ideas to change/improve my show. I can not promise to incorporate all ideas, but I want to keep the show fresh and to grow so that this year we have even more people through the gate (first year we had 102 cars and last year 80) so please let me have your thoughts.

I am considering two ideas at the moment: 1: Camping, i have permission to camp on the field this year and 2: to have a band on the Saturday night in the little pub up the road, for a small ticket fee, you can come in for music and something like Sausage and Chips in a basket.

Look forward to the ideas

Sarah

i must admit more racing coursing the evening before sounds good ,i,m quite happy sat around kev;s fire the rest of the evening :b setting the world to rights :clown: and not sure i'd be happy leaving the dogs behind

Racing and sim coursing should attract more in, I agree that alot of people wouldn't be happy to leave their dogs to go to the pub. What about a novelty dog show for the locals, and a pedigree dog show?. Also a cash prize for the champion lurcher and terrier might attract more in. You could do a rescue class, and a retired greyhound class, and plug it on lurcherlink. Racing and coursing classes for these would please them too.

I'll keep thinking!

Why don't you have the band at the campsite and get the pub to run a bar. That way no dogs have to be left behind. You'd only need the band and the bar under gazebos in case of rain. Only an idea, this is fairly near us and we'd probably come if there was entertainment. For food you could do a barbecue or hog roast and charge an all inclusive price for camping, band and food.

Thank you for the above comments. We did have coursing/racing etc last year, but the retired greyhound class sounds good. I need to think about moving "entertainment" to the field as this involves a lot more cost in hiring generators etc, given this show is based solely on sponsorship this could be tricky. However, the pub does have a good size car park in which to leave the dogs for a short time - but appreciate the concerns you all have.

Keep "em coming.

Thanks

Hi Sarah,

Camping would be good.

A whippet show and ped whippet coursing.

Plus good judges.

Pat and all The Somerset Lurchers and 2 little Whippets

Hi Marion here, reporter from the Pulmans View from Crewkerne free newspaper

would you like me to post your question in the paper?

feel free to forward me any details you would like, ie how much you raised for charity last year etc. I am sorry I didn't make it last year but I was there the year before.

Hi Sarah....happy new year to you and the hounds!

Im so looking forward to your show again this year

Camping is a great idea as that was such a great help for me last year coming from the bottom of cornwall!! :teehee: I would also like some puppy racing please as i (and a few i know) have a pup to start this year. And cant wait!

Maybe some hurdles would be great, terrier racing and hurdles too! (you could always ask Kev and debs to borrow their hurdles)

I would love to see those great rossettes again this year with the beautiful Jet on them....they were lovely and i loved them, such a great touch

And finally i like the ideas everyone else has already had.....bringing the band to the field and maybe some evening coursing (show the true workers!!)

If there is anything i can do just let me know xx

Hey You - long time no hear!

Hope you and the dogs are ok.

Thanks for raving about my show, it might get others interested.

There have been some good ideas, some might not be possible due to costs and/or timing. I hope people understand that I pretty much organise this show on my own (and yes there are a few who help), but the sponsorship requests have already gone out, planning the posters, schedules etc will commence shortly and it is a lot of organising to do. I have a pup to run as well, so you might be lucky there!!

I may call on you to spread the word in Cornwall, so keep in touch

Sarah

:D hi sarahmy advice for this years show is too get a better lure driver and probabley a longer track
Thanks to all those that have offered structured advice and ideas. Tigger2007, I was unaware of any major problems with the lure last year, but rest assured the lure will be fine this year as I have purchased my own new version and I also make sure that there is at least 1 spare on site in case of any problems. With regards to the track, unfortunately that is dictated by the state of the fields followng ther winter use by sheep and the such like. You have seen the fields that i have to work within, I can only make the track as long as I can, but both years they track has been 200yrds. I would love to hold a lovely long straight track to test the dogs, but given this show is mainly about showing and not racing, the racing is supposed to be the fun, not so competitive side of this show, then I have to make sure that all attendances are taken care of, bearing safety in mind of all attendees.

As with all the ideas put forward here, I will consider whether they are able or it is viable to take them on. The idea behind the show is to raise money behind a local charity very special to me and because I am the only person who undertakes the running of this show (save for a few helping hands before hand and on the day), I have to raise all sponsorship before the show and I can't spend all that sponsorship on all ideas this year. However, my intention behind the show is to make small improvements each year, so that we establish the show as "one of the best" and "that show in Crewkerne is one of the first I attend each year", so that I am still here in years to come, raising money.

So thanks for the comments and I hope to be able to incorproate them, if not this year, gradually over the coming years.

PS - the show has now been confirmed for Easter Sunday - 4 April 2010 - thanks Maria for the earlier post
