I don't think that The Kennel Club could run Crufts now without the imput from The Trade Stands. the income generated from them is huge. I often wondered if a hall just for Trade Stands might be a good idea, then if you wanted to shop you could, and if you didn't then you would know which hall to avoid.

Snap, thats a thought i've had before.

MY BIGGEST 'CONCEREN' is Discover Dogs, so many people and dogs crammed into tight area, My suggestion to Crufts is put DD in the NEC arena, as well as the BIS ring, that way they will be more space for everyone, also it gets the pesky visitors who just wana say ive been to Crufts out of the way :- "

Trade i love to see all the stands, but with moving the DD more room for everyone

The truth is that if you are a trade exhibitor you want to be near the dogs and wouldn't be willing to pay the very high stand cost if you were shut away in a different hall where there would be less passing trade. They are there to stay I am afraid.

As far as under estimating how busy it is, it is impossible not to. The Sunday crowds are extraordinary, at times you do have to carry your dog or its toes get trodden on  It is PACKED in the main aisles although it is generally OK between the benches.

Have Fun! Oh and don't drink  too much - the queues for the loos are an impressive length (w00t)

What a lot of people didn't know last year, there were 2 blocks of porta loos just outside one of the exits near the whippet benches.

There were no notices up either to let folks know  Needless to say the inside loos had an almighty queue whereas the porta,s were virtually empty all day

Exactly what I was going to say, as we have had a tradestand at Crufts for over 30 years we have a very good position, we would hate to lose it!!

of course you would Jo , but you have a `dog related `stand . :huggles:

The good thing about William not being qualified this year is I wont have to keep running up to discover dogs to borrow my friends pass as he wont wee on the sawdust I have to take him outside  . Another good thing is I wont get wee'ed up in the ring as William has a lovely habbit of cocking his leg upme in the ring 3 times he's been to crufts and 3 times he's done it never at any other show just in the ring at crufts :- "

Hi Marie

Just caught up with your thread - wow you're going to have a fantastic time - Crufts has to be seen to be believed especially when you come from our quiet little neck of the woods ;) Imagine the AECC and multiply it about 30 times!!!!!

Are you taking somebody with you? It's a personal thing but I would never leave a dog alone on the benches - the general public are not very educated and really do stick their fingers everywhere; they'll stop and stare at you eating your sandwiches because they do think everything is there for their entertainment and not the dogs welfare! And beware out-of-control children.

Do wear comfy shoes. Take water for Tara. If you see a loo without a queue use it - you may not get another chance without waiting in the line

Wish I was there, I'd have taken your photo in the ring (we're on Thursday (Toys)) but my photos of the rings are usually too dark :b :teehee: The halls are immense and swallow the flash unless you have a good camera.

Have fun, buy lots of daft things... see you when you get back

have to say folks that if there werent any trade stands there your entry fees would be astronomical and hardly anyone would be able to afford to show there!trade stand costs at prestigious shows are enormous cos of the amount of people there so the poor trade stand owners are made to pay large amounts as the organisers think theyre making massive amounts of money.we get the same thing when we do game fairs and bike shows or any other one off organised event.without them most organisers couldnt afford to stage the show so take pity on the trade stand owners and go along and spend your money with them and make sure they make a profit!cos if they dont and they stop going, there probably wont be a crufts show again! :D

So £20 per entry for Crufts is not enough considering most people qualify at champ shows which vary from £20 to £23. This means just to get a dog to Crufts can cost £40 to enter.

o.k i think im under estimating how busy crufts really is!!
Crufts has got to be the best and the worst experience for a dog and owner all rolled into one!!!

With a slight tendency towards agoraphobia, claustraphobia and a history of panic attacks, it takes a hell of a lot of mental preperation to get me there - especially on a Sunday. :sweating: Once I'm around the benches, I rarely venture to the stalls.

BUT YOU WILL LOVE IT there is nothing on this earth to compare it to

Louise

This is a great thread, very handy info and I think perhaps it could/should be put in FAQ for future reference?

I don't have to think about my outfit at all...as I am not showing this year...yay!!!! :D I'd actually rather not show at Crufts as it leaves much more time for shopping!! And ssshhhh don't tell Ryan!! :teehee:

OOooohhhhhh Pamela you naughty girl  .....planning on doing a shopping spree while Ryan is nowhere to be seen :- " . I'M TELLING!!!!

...unless of course you buy him something nice as a well deserved (and earned) present for staying at home to babysit those ten crazy pups!!! (w00t) (w00t)

yes im aware of how much it costs to show a dog.i used to have a number of them entered so multiply that amount by say 5 or 6 and then you start to complain! ;)

on the other hand if i do a bike show this year at manchester the costs are over 1,200 per day!and thats for a 6-12 ft stand.id love to know what the crufts committee charge for a stand at crufts. :- " my friends have just done a trade show at the NEC and it cost them 20,000 for 5 days plus hotels and meals for staff on top of that(and all the hotels and guest houses charge double in that week,i know cos i checked with them all) trade stands at all big shows are made to pay for the event.without them most events couldnt possibly take place.

I know what you are saying Kris , but when Crufts was in London there werent the huge amount of trade stands ,its was more of a DOG show :- " plus if we didnt have so many stands then they wouldnt need all the 5 halls PLUS the arena ,

I wouldnt want it back in London (w00t) ,thats for sure , but it seems that its big success has grown not for the exhibitors but for trade stands and the KC pocket
