Dad got the test results last week and it is not what we wanted to hear.Dad has Lou Gehrig's disease,no cure for it and life span of 3-5 years after getting it.he can't get around without a walker, his talking is getting hard to understand and he sometimes has trouble getting food down.Sometimes,he seems fine, then he thinks about it and it gets him upset,so mom sits with him and i am with him when mom has to go out.fritz senses dad is not right and stays close to him.It is igoing to be a hard time but we will have to get through. There is a drug Rilutex that modestly slows the progress and thast is it,no cure hope there is and i don't want dad to go so soon,we all love him.

So sorry to hear this news, Barry :( Keep strong for your Dad. Lovely that Fritz is so in tune with him :huggles:

Best wishes :luck:

So sorry to hear your sad news. I'm sure you will have 'googled' the disease to see if there is any help out there.

Please try to enjoy each day you have with your dad - talk about old times and happy memories when he is able. Look at photos and try to get family members to visit as often as they can - it will also give you and your mum a break if other people drop in.

Get all the help (visiting nurse, occupational therapist etc) available to you through your surgery, and do make sure you get enough sleep.

I offer this advise as a reired District Sister - I hope it is of some help to you.

Bless dear Fritz - dogs are so wise!

Hugs to you all Janet
