Hi all,

I am new to this forum - found you guys while searching and am glad I did

I used to be the proud companion of a Greyhound/Deerhound lurcher. Ever since then I have been wanting to share my life with a Deerhound! I have a gorgeous Wolfhound named "Ciaran" and we both want to add a Deerhound to our little family.

I am Dutch, used to live in London and am curently in Los Angeles.

Can not for the life of me find a Deerhound here. (It was hard enough to find my Wolfhound)!!

I am willing to fly over for my dog. Can anyone help - point me in the right direction??

Thank you in advance!!

ps: this is Ciaran!!!

Hi saskia & welcome to K9 (you'll find some more deerhound stuff in the lurcher section on here), know there are quite a few members of 'our' Deerhound club in the States, checked the members list this morning, maybe good place for you to start is USA newletter contributor who is in Spotsylvania, VA??? Anyway her name is Linda Madden her number 540 582 3139, if that of any use to you...There are quite a few hounds over there so would think you'd not have to travel here unless you were hell bent on a particular breeder's line.

Also I beleive maybe worth your time to have a look at staghounds in the states...if you try search engine on that? Not the same thing but worth a look.

Hope that helps

Ciaran looks lovely. Let us know how you get on :luck:

Love Holland by the way - brother lives in Eindhoven - go to visit every chance I get 8)

Hi Bappit,

Thank you soo much! Just spoke to Linda's husband. They do not have any pups but were very helpful!! He gave me another # to try here in the States.

In the meantime I would still love to hear from anyone with ideas for dogs both in the USA and the UK.

Eindhoven is a nice little town. I was born in Rotterdam!

Thank you!!!

Saskia there is a deerhound discussion email list. Click on the link for a starter. There are a large number of US deerhound folks on that list.

Hi Beejay!!

Wow - thank you so much. I signed up and I have just located a breeder in Oregon who has 2 puppies available!! If she likes us I think we may have just found our newest family member (god willing!!)

If all goes well I will post pics!!

 Lovely deerhound pics. We met two on the beach yesterday, and the couple who were walking them are real deerhound fans - they had ten at one point (w00t)

They mentioned that the secretary of the deerhound club and I'm sure OH will remember what they said as he was very interested. Apparently the secretary usually has lists of litters when/where etc so I'll get back to you with that info if the Oregan trail goes cold

Duffy is much hairier than my Tally was as a pup. I was very disappointed to have a slightly broken coated dog. Tally was actually the sort of colour that Dessie loves. So think of Dessie's very dark brindled dogs and that was the colour that Tally was. I'll look up some photos of him.

However here's an example of what a deerhound does to a whippet bed. Firstly a rather neat little whippet whose recently celebrated his 4th birthday showing how it should be done.

And this is what happens when a deerhound...............

Siaskia I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get your pup very soon. :luck: Glad that the link worked.

Hahhahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (w00t) @ squished bed (w00t)

Duffy is really 'bald' compared to Darcy when she was a pup. In fact, his hair is getting less and less as he grows  I can't imagine what he'll look like when he's older

Tally's sisters all had hairy coats when I went to see him but the dogs all had slightly broken coats. So the bitches looked like deerhounds and the dogs didn't. Well to me anyway. :- "

Darcy and Duffy are even more gorgeous in the flesh and so gentle and lovely, had to get my OH away from Sprout because she was telling him where he could get a deerhound from and he was ready for collecting it (w00t) (w00t) by couch is just not big enough for 3 whips and a deerhound

Cairen and Tally are so

But Lesley deerhounds fold up ever so small. Tally can fit into an armchair.

All the dogs on this post are totally

BeeJay - love your pics - the squashed bed made me laugh out loud!
