We are living in a small caravan, whilst building a house, we have 4 male dogs - 1 bitch in season - 1 dog going mad... whining and crying constantly... does anyone know of anything I can give him to calm him down, I do not have anyone to have my bitch - who seems to have come into season early???? was not due in till end Feburary - all other dogs are fine except for this one dog, who is just driving us mad PLEASE IF YOU KNOW OF ANYTHING PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP...

skullcap and valerian from www.dorwest.com

But it'll never work enough to calm a hot bloody male down enough not to have a disaster, could she not go into Kennels?

I believe the vets can now give the boys an injection ???? Have a work with your vet, he may be able to help

I phoned the vet this morning and the receptionist said she would ring me back when he had finished surgery but he did not ring, she told me that there was nothing they could do! I am desperate now....

Hi, there is an injection the bitch can have to bring her out of season, but usually takes 3-4 days to work, I think its mesalin but having a blank moment so may be alizin!! Also there is an injection for the boys - tardak, or there is now an implant available for boys which lasts for 6 months fairly new and don't know the name but think its made by virbac. Hope that helps.

just asked my sister who is a veterinary nurse she said to ask your vet for tardak for your boy he should have it good luck

I have successfully used the herb Agnus Castus to quieten my male boxer when my bitch was in season . You can buy it from Holland and Barrett and I gave him 1 tablet twice daily . It is used normally to boost female fertility but has the opposive effect on males and quietens them down . It does take a few days to build up in their system though and works best if you can start them on it a couple of weeks before the bitch comes in .

Hope this helps

Jackie

Tardak, it's too late to stop your bitches season. Is she in a crate? He may calm down if she is in a crate and he can lie near her, just a thought.

Not an easy time for you.

What a pain - if I was closer I'd offer to take him for a bit to spare your sanity! :luck: :luck:

Thanks for all the advice and the offers to take my bitch.... I will be taking him to the vets on Monday see if they offer the jab for him, need something otherwise it's the divorce courts for me I fear... My husband has a very short fuse and just keeps loosing his temper with him, which makes it really hard for me, and my dad upset me today when I kinda asked if they would take my little bitch... he said why don't you take her to the RSPCA they will find her a home "Thanks Dad" just goes to show that my Father does not undersatnd what my dogs mean to me!

the problem you might encounter is, he seems to top dog "with mating rights" thats why the other boys dont seem botherd, however if you take him out of the picture (remove him/or the injection) it could open the door to one of the lower ranking dogs, ive seem this happen, just didnt want you to have a wasted trip/cost at the vets if one of the other dogs will start acting the same.

if someone has offered to look after your bitch, i would say thats the best idea then get her speyed (if your not going to breed from her)

good luck
