We're finally back home after shopping Thursday, showing yesterday, and participating in Discover Dogs today. We had a fantastic day today. Savvy and Teya LOVED meeting people and were (if I say so myself) wonderful ambassadors of the breed.

Our best story of the day (though we have many). A young girl about 6 or 7 was standing back shyly just watching so Nick invited her over to pet Teya and she came carefully over and stroked her back. Her dad's jaw dropped, but he didn't say anything, he just watched her. Then she placed herself in between Teya and Savvy and just stood there stroking them both very gently. Dad leans in and says to us 'I can't believe she's stroking TWO! She's been very wary of dogs!' I then asked her if she wanted to give them a cookie and showed her how to offer it to them on a flat hand so she gave one to Savvy (who of course took it like a lady) and when I asked if she'd like to give one to Teya as well she took it and gave it to her. The look on Dad's face was amazing! It was worth it ALL just to see Dad that proud of his little girl!

Oh Teena thank you and you're welcome!! Lola did beautifully! She didn't seem phased at all by standing backward on the table! She did you proud!

Well done Wendy for flying the flag, its great to see unsure kids making that first step. :cheers:

:cheers: :cheers: :cheers: A huge, huge thank you to all the team that manned the Whippet Breed Stand on Discover Dogs on the Saturday.

We had Wendy and her partner and her gorgeous ladies - who as you already know had lots of people around them the time that they were there.

Tracy Chamberlain and her lovely young dog, who was a crowd pleaser when playing with his ball (which was most of the afternoon). I think there is a little star in the making there.

John, Val and Fiona Waterfield, ably accompanied by Jennifer, Fiona's daughter, who showed people just how good Whippets are with people. John and Val had brought 2 dogs, Rocko was one and the other was a lovely fawn - whose name I can't remember, sorry John and Val.

Then there was me accompanied by BJ (of course) and Asharna who spent as much time as possible on my lap and so drew lots of admiring pats, strokes and cuddles, sitting on one disabled lady's lap in the wheelchair.

The chap from Blue Peter interviewed me (thank goodness they didn't use it) who asked the question re blokes and flat caps, whereupon he got the answer from me of, "Well I'm no bloke and I'm not wearing a flat cap either!"

Bringing up the rear was son Ian, his wife Michelle (Chelle123) and Sarah, their friend helping to lug all the gear in and out.

We had a fantastic day and my thanks go to all the team for their hard work especially the dogs who took it all in their stride and were great ambassadors for the breed. Finally, knocking off at about 5 we all agreed it had been a very enjoyable, if tiring day.

I'm extremely proud of the 'first timers' Wendy and Tracy and hope that if I'm asked next year, they'll come along again. :thumbsup: :teehee:

Jan, we would do it again in a heartbeat! I was really pleased with how the girls behaved themselves, and how much they enjoyed it. So knowing for sure how good they will be, and how much we enjoyed it ourselves, we are DEFINITELY in for another round any time.

Wendy

Well Done to the Discover Dogs team, there is no doubt that the visiting public love Discover Dogs I talked to loads of people who had been over there many saying how nice it was to be able to get close to the dogs and how they appreciated being able to see the breeds which were not being shown on that particular day.

I'm not surprised Teya and Savvy performed so well they are two adorable whippets who must bring lots of admirers to the breed. They very kindly came to visit me on the stand and I loved every minute of it. What great ambassadors for the breed.

Wendy, I loved your story, how wonderful that Savvy and Teya were able to help that young girl.

Ollie and I had a great time, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone. Ollie revelled in the attention, strokes, and photo opportunities that he got, but I have to admit that I think his highlight of Crufts was meeting Savvy and Teya :wub: I think my boy had his own "Discover Dogs" that maybe should have been "Discover Bitches" :b :- " :blink:

My thanks go to Jan for inviting us, Savvy and Teya for their patience and understanding of a young male whippet, Chesney from Coronation Street who said "wow, he's cool, can I say hello" and to my boy Ollie :wub: who made quite a few people realise that a whippet was either for them or maybe not (w00t)

I thoroughly enjoyed the day, and will be first in the queue for next year :thumbsup:

It was a wonderful experience and I gained a lot. I was very nervous before I went, as I have only owned 2 whippets and the first one entered my life in January 2005 so I am VERY new to the breed. I was paranoid that people would be asking me so many questions that I didn't know the answers to, but in reality the only referrals I made to others were to do with breeding and the real differences between igs and whippets. Jan and Val have both bred and easily fielded the questions for me, and we also had Jan to default to as she owns both iggies and whippets, so that was fantastic.

Quote of the day;

Chap from Blue Peter to Jan;

"I have always found whippets to be very frightened little things when they come to my surgery, crying when they have an injection and that sort of thing, shaking a lot. What are your thoughts on this?"

Jan to Chap from Blue Peter;

"Well they don't cry when they get an injection from MY vet"

Was very disappointed, but also not suprised that this didn't make the TV coverage (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

Thanks Jan, and I really hope that you are asked next year so that we can go again :D

Well done to you Wendy :thumbsup: , thats a lovely story and just think you may of set the seeds in the young girls head to be a whippet lover in the future and have her own and be involved in the breed, all down to how your dogs were with her :D thats really great :)

:lol: :lol: :lol: PMSL JAN you are a diamond :lol: :D Would love to have seen his face ;)

:- " Taken aback, I think is the expression. Stupid so and so, trying to be clever! Just felt the need to put this "famous person" in his place and it is true, when my vet gives them a jab, they don't cry, whine or anything, perhaps it's cos he's such a good vet.

Bet he doesn't come to the Whippet Breed Stand if I'm on again next year when/if he comes round!!!! 8)

Always say what I think, which doesn't make me popular in certain quarters, but then I'm not in it for the approval or not, but because I love me dogs! But thanks Jax for the compliment.

Think the comments from me were a bit Jo Brandish, lookalike too! :wacko:
