We've been giving Bea dentastix for almost 5 years now and she absolutely loves them, but I hear mixed things about them. Do you give your dog dentastix or do you have any recommended alternatives?

Stupid question I know, but what are gravy bones?Den usually gets just gravy bones that I can stuff into his kong! (trying to keep a treat lasting more than 5 minutes!)

Hi PeeGee, Thank you.Ive never given them as I didn't know whether they were healthy or not. I give Evie a couple of raw bones (chicken and duck wings) each week to aid with teeth cleaning - not sure where I got that advice from. Perhaps Excuseme will join in and let us have her views on Dentastix

Raw chicken bones are absolutely fine for our dogs, just don't ever feed them cooked ! All raw bones are good and healthy, however do take care with the large weight bearing beef bones, as it is sometimes reported that these can crack our dogs teeth.
Cooked bones of all kinds can be dangerous, they become brittle when cooked, this is why they should be avoided.
Puppies from 4 weeks of age can be started on raw meaty bones /chicken wings, carcasses, and I am sure a 10 year old would love them too. Start with a bone that seems too big, your puppy / adult dog, so they will have to work on it slowly and will not be able to crunch it too fast and swallow in one gulp ! Do not panic yourself, if you start to panic and try to take the bone away some dogs will naturally gulp it down to prevent you from getting hold of it.
Leave all skin, fat and any gristle on for your dog, the whole thing is entirely edible and nutritious.
Enjoy !
