Do zoomies count as exercise?

Hello! I’m new here - and have an adopted lab mix aged about 18 months. He has a lot of energy and gets three long walks a day (on and off lead, though even off lead, he tends to stick by me), which I’m able to do, as I work at home. If one of his walks is delayed for any reason, he gets destructive and loud (bored, basically, and trying ways to entertain himself), so I try never to miss one.

Yesterday I got called into the office over the lunchtime period when he usually has his walk. I didn’t have time to take him beforehand, so I just took him to a green space at the end of the road and let him get his zoomies out for ten minutes before I left for work.

Astonishingly, when I came home, nothing was destroyed, and the neighbours greeted me very pleasantly with no noise complaints. When I went inside he was as chilled as if he’d had his ordinary lunchtime walk.

I’m not saying I plan to deprive him of walks on purpose, but does this mean that letting him out and encouraging him to bound around like a much smaller puppy is basically nearly as good as a walk for him?!
