I'm wondering what everyone does about bathing their dog. We've recently moved house and do most of our walking in the woods now, which is great for Tiree but he does get very mucky especially on a wet day. Coupled with that he doesn't care much for being cleaned up. Yesterday he nearly turned the kitchen into a swimming pool by upsetting the makeshift bath I had rigged up from a collapsible washing basket (TIP: this is NOT a good idea). So now I'm wondering whether to invest in a purpose made dog bath, or would it make more sense to get a shower attachment for the bath tap and stick him in there? I've also seen some portable dog washing gadgets you fill with water and spray them before they come inside. Anyone tried those?

For Murphy ( who is a mucky pup) we quite simply fill a watering can with warm water before going out. By the time we come home its cooled to dog friendly temperature and we rinse him off in the drive. Cheap easy and the water just runs off into the drain.

I have something similar to the Mud Daddy. Just to add, depending on the risk of Alabama Rot in your area, washing off mud asap is a good idea.

If pip and libby are really muddy I rinse them off in the bath with the shower attachment. I dont use shampoo unless the have rolled in foxes poo.
If its just their paws , I use a washing up bowl placed on a large towel and just rinse their paws in it.

The vet might know, there is also a map but I'm not sure how accurate it is - I just don't take the chance.

We put the dogs in the bath and use the shower to clean them up, (sometimes 3 times a week in the working season). We NEVER use shampoos unless fox poo is involved, but I honestly can't remember the last time anyone ever rolled in the stinky stuff. If it is feet only that need a rinse, I use a shallow trug tub or sink bowl with warm water and do one foot at a time.

We have a large 15 ltr one just bought from a DIY shop...

Rox is small enough to just put in the bath and use the shower attachment to rinse her off, she gets so muddy with how low to the ground she is and if I let the mud dry on her it irritates her skin so her legs and belly get a rinse off after almost every walk in winter months!
I like the watering can idea though

....I did try bathing outdoors in the summer a couple of times with a bucket of water, more hassle really, just pop her in the bath! The downstairs bathroom is right by the back door anyway

Id love a downstairs bathroom again. Ours is upstairs and it would mean Murphy walking through the whole house just to get there, easier to rinse him off outside which he doesnt mind, although the neighbours think Im mad esp and he has not learned to give 'paw' but one foot, two foot, chin and tummy as I dry him off!

Dudley is little and fluffy. He goes in the kitchen sink for paw and belly wash after walking.
His real bath is at the groomers every four weeks.

Combination of most of these. Large old metal pan filled with warm water for just feet. If legs needed then big watering can which can take a single leg at a time, then refilled and poured down legs. BUT this year we've invested in an outside tap with spray attachment- connected to the hot water supply. The plumber couldn't believe what we wanted- nor why. But our hot water can be set to come on in the evening- by morning's return from walk it's been run/off and cooled enough to jet-wash even the filthiest tummy.(the expression on their faces when it gets to the bits is something to see.)

That's why our lot each have a shower. They all stand waiting for their turn (up to 4 of them)after a days hard work.

Having a dog that is determined to go through life keeping both clean and dry I don't have a problem. When she comes across a muddy patch or puddle she either jumps over it or tip toes round it.
