i normally just go on how my dogs act in themselves to tell me that they are bob on

yes Dave when it crosses the winning line first lol

I think you only know when your dog is fit if you have put the work into it,

My Boo looks and feels fit shes got the mark on her lower ribs and the line down middle of the back, thats another one lol

i mean she is fit as in she goes for walks and free running but wouldnt be race fit ....... if she could run that is lol ;)

You have to work your dog to get it race fit thats what i think anyway

depends dave theres fit then theres race fit :)

So true Gary, Leia is fit at the moment but not what i call race fit, :teehee: before her season she had a six pack on her belly when she lay on her back, (w00t) I knew she was fit then. ;)

Like Sadieandco said you no by how much work your putting into your dogs.(fxxxing dogs are killing me) di

 nothing like getting them behind that lure to sharpen them up.i like to walk free run ,then hand slips between the missis and myself then onto the track. beech has been our training ground for the last couple of months.just fitting it in with work 65 mile round trip, a morning or a afternoon to do.snowing at the moment ,real battle to get them galloped up at the moment

i heard of the mark down there back .

yeah dave ive heard of the line down the back and if u can c sort of 3 to 5 knots as someone once called them to me. also if they r raking the ground up. mind mickey whizz rakes the ground up all the time and hes 9 hasnt raced for 5 years lol. always knew if crackin whizz was injured coz she never raked the ground up if injured. but like gary says theres fit and theres race fit. for instance when we ran mickey whizz and he got that bad injury where he was off the track for 6 months. we put loads of work into him walking beach work etc but he wasnt race fit until we raced him for a few weeks.

just realised u r talking about s line on the lower rib cage? im talking about a line down the middle of their backs

ours scrate up when they are fired up .

best one fot that was deneside belle big andrew,he was at easington with colin on the grass next to the gate. he started to scrate up sods where flying over the wall.

o no the bloke wasnt to happy they went all over his car , said who the f--ks done this colin and i made a fast retreat.

andrew scrates like a muck spreader and gets worse if you gee him up.

good sign they fired up

Personally, I think there's a load of indicators beside ''the lines'' as they're only an indication of muscle tone and lean body mass which youth can bless us all with. Attitude is another but it depends on the dog. Getting the ok from your dog man is another but the main one I look for is recovery. Fit dogs don't blow hard after exertion and seconds after racing they're no different than they was before they exerted themselves. Even this is variable though as some dogs may just not try that hard in their running.

If you know your own dog well enough then I think it's fair to say you above everyone else will know if it's fit or not.
