Wow...

I'm new here so this is the first time I've seen a heated topic. I'm not really a "show dog" person for this very reason, in fact, I got out of showing horses for that reason too. I just hate the politics! So what do I go and do?

I get myself a cotraversial dog, take him to shows, have to explain the whole "Longhaired Whippet" thing to everyone, and prepare for fire.

And you know what? I LOVE it!!!! Puzzle is the BEST dog in the world to me and everything I ever wanted. We just share a chuckle when I tell him that I have it on good authority that there's no such thing as him.

Any show can have it's bad times and any breed can have negitive people involved; you just make sure that you surround youself with those that are friendly and supportive and ignore the rest.

Happy showing everyone!

Well put!!

Gosh Foxydog , do you really think this is a `heated` topic

This is nothing of the sort , just someone who is a tad over sensitive ;) and has taken things that people have said the wrong way

Yes, here in Canada we would consider this a "heated" topic. Haven't you heard?

We are SO very considereate here that any little thing is considered over the top...

YAH RIGHT!!!!!! LOL Sorry, couldn't help myself, I love to play around with the whole polite Canadian reputation. So the secret is out, we're just the same as everyone else when it comes to taking things too seriously! What good is life if you can't make fun of yourself?!

Quite agree Foxydog :huggles:

(w00t) In Whippets it's often called a warped sense of humour, eh Jax. :- "

I'm not going to comment on the comments made by Mikadene. What I will say is that Whippet folk are some of the nicest, kindest and helpful folk I've ever come across. No matter what you do, in any hobby and yes we do it for FUN, you will always get people who want to win no matter what. Yes, there are heated debates about what is a typical whippet and how well it compares to the breed standard, but that's because it's PEOPLE who are discussing it and no two people (not even relatives sometimes) interpret the breed standard the same including when they're looking to breed a litter. And that's what makes this game SOOOOOOOOOO interesting. At the end of the day we all take the best whippets home!

So now having got on my soap box, I'll get off it again and go brush up my Afghan Hound standard ready for judging at Stafford tomorrow. Doing Whippets as well, HMMMMMMMMMMM, should I check that standard also!

Jax I can guess what your comment might be!

Hah...this is not heated at all by K9 standards!! LOL BUT I do agree with some of what Foxydog originally said..regarding any breed having negative people (fact of life,it happens in EVERYTHING!!) and to just surround yourself with the decent people,no-one forces us after all to associate with prats!... so DON'T!!...simple!
