Hello!!

I just bought the most wonderful collar for my whippet and wanted to share the seller with you as I think she deserves a plug!! I am at work so will post a photo of my darling Pixie wearing her new collar this evening.

It is the softest dark purple leather with a lovely paler purple suede lining. The lady who makes them is based in Devon and took over the job from her father. She is also a reiki healer, so at my request, she inscribed protection and healing symbols into the suede lining, and added a reiki blessed hematite heart to the tag ring for proection, healing and calming. The collar came with a lovely write up of the reiki side of what she had done and why. All this inc p&p came to about £12, alot less than other collars I was looking at!

I think her name was Jane ( will double check later) and her ebay seller account is http://stores.ebay.co.uk/exmoor-lurcher?_rdc=1

Pixie now looks like a real little lady and although I don't know much about reiki, as soon as i put the collar on she keeled over and fell fast asleep! Peace at last! haha, wonder if it will last??!!

Looking forward to seeing a pic of your lovely girl  We also have a beautiful collar from Exmoor Lurcher, and they were very helpful too.

I really liked the look of these collars when i saw them on ebay when i was looking for leather collars and very nearly bought my gang one each. However, a friend had bought one and she showed me hers and it had worn really badly - the leather around the fastenings had almost worn through and was very thin and she'd not had the collar very long at all (her dog was still in Minor Puppy at a show so hardly had worn it)

Sorry to put a dampner on this - but i just thought it was worth mentioning it to others if they are thinking of buying. If im buying a leather collar, i'd expect it to last years.

If she gets in touch with them they will replace it with something stronger. We also had this problem and had a replacement which is perfect. So if you order from them maybe specify you don't want their very softest collars.

I bought one off them a plum coloured one. When it arrived it was bigger than descrobed and to big for the dog in question. It fitted one of my others and she wears it for shows not for general walking It did say on the description that it was a house colour and not meant for a hard pulling dog. I emailed her and told them it was too big and she toldme I could return it and would be refunded.I kept it as it is just used for when we are at shows or just road walking.

I don't think I would buy another it was far too soft for my liking I didn't think it would be very hard wearing at all.

My latest collar for Oscar was from this site, Ive found it a very well made leather collar

and well lined too.....so far its wearing really well...

Rifle has only ever had one leather collar, other than his very soft puppy collar, and although it is still in good condition I treated him to a new one simply because I was buying one for Rosie too. They are not the cheapest available, but as I learned with saddlery, good leather is a good investment. The ones I ordered are the leather lined ones, they do feel a little stiff to begin with but soon soften without being so soft that they are not hardwearing. http://www.hideandcollars.co.uk/collar4.htm

I should add that Rifle is now almost 5 and a half years old :)

I have found a leather craftsman locally who is prepared to make a selection of leather collars for me. I am supplying the fittings so I know that the quality is to the same high standard I use on my webbing collars. The leather is hand picked by him.

Buckle collars are £10 plain and £12 tooled ( plus P&P). Cast brass fittings.

Maya and Runa have collars from Celtic hounds, they are really nice, apart from the fact Maya scratched all her lovely copper firefly images off!!

I can't upload pics on here!!! arrrgh!

Darren, I love your dogs collar, it is soooo smart!!! Really different too. May have to invest at some point when Pixie is ready for a grown up collar!

Pixie's collar is still wearing very well. The stitching and buckles seem really strong and firm and the leather is wearing fine even though it is ultra soft, which I like on her delicate puppy neck. It has got a bit muddy as we go to the yard to do the horses every day, but comes up beautifully with good quality leather products that I have for the horse's tack. Apologies for the lack of pics, but so far, so good! :)

Does anyone find that their whippet ruins their leather collar by constantly scratching it? Milo inherited a good quality leather collar, padded inside with a lovely soft lining but he has wrecked the outside leather with his (regularly clipped) claws :( ................ and no, he doesn't have fleas! ;)

Yup! Pixie is a nightmare, I find good quality leather cleaner/ conditioner for horse tack really good. It keeps the leather supple and hides a multitude of scratches etc. It is annoying, especially the looks you get when she starts scratching... I want to yell "she's not got fleas!". Then I have the same ordeal worrying about people thinking my daughter must have nits when she scratches her head in public!! People must think we have an awful bug infested house! lol.

My dogs are busy saving up their pocket money for one of these collars, which I think are gorgeous:
