but who am i to determine if they are an anti-social stupid bloody thing anyway
exactly who has the right to make that decission.

just seems really stupid in this day and age - some laws, rules and regulations, ..... we cannot even put a sticking plaster or bite cream onto kids at the farm, or schools for that matter.....

but its ok to hand them a firework and let them get on........

thanks for though who voted, and opinions

I THINK THAT FIREWORKS SHOULD BE BANNED FROM BUYING IN SHOPS TO THE PUBLIC.THEY SHOULD BE SOLD ONLY TO PUBLIC EVENTS WITH A LICENSE.DO YOU AGREE?IT WOULD BE FAR MORE SAFER AND NO HOLIGANS WOULD BE ABLE TO GET HOLD OF THEM AND DO STUPID AND CRUEL THINGS TO PEOPLE AND ANIMALS.
Ditto

But for the fact it scares animals, animals are scared by other noises like thunder and lightenings for example and there is not much you can do about that!

i agree, but its also what people do with the fireworks with animals and other people

don't get me wrong its lovely to see fireworks displays,i,m not against them, its just they should not be sold in shops, for hooligans to get hold of and do horrid things.it would be alot safer to have proper license events.

as you see alot of people want them ban altogether,we are all allow a say, which is what its all about :D without anyone anyone being nasty, taking it personaly etc(not that i,m saying anyone is,you know what i mean  )

Gelert didn't mind thunderstorms at all until he had a bad experience with fireworks last year; having a particularly bad experience with excessive firework noise seems to have triggered off a greater sensitivity :(

He was also fine with fireworks until this point too; would walk out on Nov 5 without a problem, so I'm not convinced that it is a simple issue of just accustoming them to noise; if a dog can go for 6 years without a problem but then suddenly develop anxiety after a particularly acute experience, it can't be that simple.

I just find the whole thing an unpleasant invasion of privacy too. In any other context, if one were to do something that caused similar levels of distress or nuisance to neighbours, there would be an immediate barrage of complaints to Environmental Health. Also the pollution from smoke and sulphur is very unpleasant; I've had very sore eyes and throat for several days now, and I'm sure anyone who suffers from asthma will have had an uncomfortable time too.

I wouldn't want to see them banned. Why must a ban be slapped on everything these days?? :(   We have a public display at the foot of our garden every year so you can imagine the noise and size of the fireworks we have to endure, plus the noise of the people! ;) If fireworks where limited to public displays only, how would it help people in our situation or is it a case of it's alright as long as it's NIMBY??
I support a ban except for public displays and I also have the local place the public display is held pretty much in my back garden. The difference is I would KNOW when they were so could prepare my animals for that one or two days that it's happening as opposed to the war zone that's been going on for WEEKS. I have a dog who's been on meds for 3 weeks now. if it was only the two weekends around the 5th, and nothing available to the public then I could go on with life as normal for the most part, have her medicated at the weekends and stay home then.

I don't have a problem with organised displays being pretty much in my back garden - because they're official we know WHEN they're happening - so I don't htink it's hyocritical at all.

As far as I'm concerned if we're all happy for the public to have explosives (and they ARE explosives) then why not just go whole hog like the US and let them all carry guns as well! Same kind of damage can be caused. (btw the North America does NOT allow the public to have the type of fireworks that we do over here - those are only for licensed displays and people who hold special licences for handling)

And on top of that it was STILL a war zone going on here LAST night!
