Greyhound vets often recommend them Ian and its use is recommended in Care of the Racing Greyhound and Canine Sports Medicine & Surgery, both books being written by vets and I think one of the books does mention clinical trials so I guess there must be some evidence that it works. That's pulsed magnetic field therapy mind, not static magnets like you get in bioflow collars. Having said that a lot of people swear by those too.

Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy scepticism though

oh, he's definitely wearing a splint, all the way up his leg, and will do for the next month or so. It takes two people to do the rebandaging. Two metacarpal ligaments were severed (not just strained), probably by glass.

A few days ago there was some bleeding under the stitches and I worried it may not be good to use magnets in this circumstance. Yesterday when we rebandaged there were signs of localised infection, but the bandage isn't stained today and my dog seems happier (he wants to walk further on three good legs than I will let him). I got a good boot to put on his foot when I take him out for the toilet, so no danger of getting damp or dirty. The first times I had him out, I used socks and plastic bags and they didn't protect well enough. I'm not using any form of magnet on him for the time being, but still asking questions.

I have Vetzyme wound powder in my first aid kit but there are plenty of options out there. Then a clean piece of linen and some Vetwrap for a day is usually good enough for something not stitched!

Talking of Vetwrap - I can't use that stuff without it bringing back a bad memory. My foundation bitch Belle had been in the vets to have a snapped tendon mended and of course it had been bandaged with Vetwrap. I had taken her back a week later to have the leg examined and the vet removing it cut into her paw with the scissors. It was the wierdest experience ever - he, calmly scissoring into her skin and HER calmly letting him - and me absolutely gob-smacked at seeing blood well up from around the scissors! He stitched her foot - and had the good grace not to charge me

I was told by a greyhound vet apart from treating various injuries and reducing scar tissue Portamags work as an analgesic.

To me anything that makes my dogs more comfortable and doesn’t entail shoving painkillers down them for injuries has got to be better. :))

The greyhound vet I go to also recommends their use to warm up muscles before massage, instead of using warm towels.
