First Signs Seasons?

iv had a wee read through the faq, but the thread goes of topic and on to dogs and bitches living together :blink:

so im just wondering if there are any first signs to look out for,

reason i ask is, last night OH took them out and said he had to keep them on the lead as every dog in the park was up at their backside :unsure:

i have checked them both and there are no obvious signs of anything,

is there anything else to look out for?

Usually they pee a bit more often and only a little bit just like sent marking, unfortunately dogs seem to know when a bitch is coming into season well before they do,

Sometimes in greyhounds the bitches can have what we call them as silent seasons where they are in season but dont show any signs, was wondering if this can happen to whippets

They probably are leading up to season Katie if the boys are interested, be careful with them as they'll get pestered.

Some slight swelling can happen before the bleeding starts, they may be a bit mopey, not want to run so much, be off their food?

Silent seasons (with no bleeding) can happen in all breeds but they are rare, and the swelling happens just the same so is still obvious.

It can take a while for a first season to really get going, they can start and stop for a few weeks - Good Luck as your little girls turn into Big Girls!!

careful if you let them off lead, if their recall is good, they might not be so keen to come back while in season/leading up to a season....they will rather play with boys :b :b :b

i always know when Grace is coming in at least 2 weeks before as she gets frisky and extra playful with the others!

Our Jude has just come into season for the first time. Her brother Simba had been following her around for a few weeks so I had been keeping an eye on her and seperated her from him as soon as I saw any swelling. My boys normally let me know a few weeks in advance of any of my bitches coming into season.

If you are very observant you will notice very subtle gradual changes few weeks before any of the really noticeable ones. There is nothing to worry about, even if you miss the very first sign of colour, by the time the bitch will be willing to accept a dog you will know . There will be pink drops on the floor and little marks wherever she sits.

Hi Katie, just to let you know that Skye is showing some signs of swelling, I'm not 100% yet whether it's just in my mind but if Ruby and Star are showing signs too then it does make sense :unsure: .

Well theres still nothing noticable and i have had them out in the park twice/three times a day since i posted this thread and i havnt noticed any more than usual of other dogs sniffing at them, and i dont think they are peeing more :wacko:

maybe the dogs were actually sniffing OH :-

Rosie/Kate- could you keep me informed of skye if she does come into season. was so hoping that R+S would not have there first untill like 18months or somthing like that, but we have Nicky12's season nickers at the ready for when it does happen :sweating:

Sure, no problem . I was thinking it was quite early, Phoebs was 18 months but think they are all different like people.
