Well Freeway went into the vets this morning for xrays and I have just had a call to say "He's made a right mess of his Carple bone, shattered it into pieces Looks like he's going to be in a cast for at least 6 weeks, I'll know more when he come home tonight.

How he managed that just running is beyond me :unsure: Maybe he did collide with something !!!!!!!

It is the bones coming from his pastern joint, or the equivalent of our wrist running into the fingers. They are known as carpal bones in the front leg and tarsal bones in the hind leg

Oh no I didn't see it happen unfortunately, he looked fine at the point we took a pic. I'll check back and see if there are any other of him that might give a clue :luck: :luck: :luck: for the treatment.

Freeways says thanks for all the hugs and well wishes. He got home and gobbled his food up like he was never fed Bless !

Luckily my vet is a orthopaedic specialist (as well as owning whippets herself)and explained to me how this injury happens.

Apparently the tendons in the front paston are very strong, strong enough to pull the Carpus bone to peices when put under a lot of pressure, usually over stretching. Just a freak accident.

His bone is broken into four little bits, so he's wearing a pressure bandage to pull all the bits together. And it a lovely shade of Blue just like ollies and Zephers !
