He's OK thanks Clair....he can trot along on a 3-5 mile walks quite happily, as long as they are not too hilly. This walk really suited him being nice and flat. His back legs don't behave as they should, and he's a bit unsteady as a result, and is also quite tired after a walk of this length. However, we take it steady and he really seems to still enjoy being out and about.Fred is looking very fit and able these days, is he doing ok?
There's a cycle hire centre at Parsley Hay which is really popular, so I think the cyclists think they have right of way. I've read snippets on write-ups about the trail, that the cyclists find dog walkers inconsiderate, blocking the way. Maybe it's a bit dicey meeting up on the Tissington Trail of a summer weekend. Perhaps we could find an alternative venue..Perhaps a Whippet Meet on the Tissington Trail could be arranged (and honourary whippets too of course).Brilliant photos, I keep meaning to take Tiny on to the Tissington Trail, it's not that far from us.
It's certainly a nice walk from Parley Hay to Hartington...I must explore the rest at some point...it's supposed to be very pretty at t'other end too, as Sarah confirms. I hope to bump into you sometime as well then Claire
There were loads of cyclists though, and some didn't seem to slow down either :- so we did have to keep ours on lead.
Aw...thanks Janis....sorry you couldn't sleep, but glad I cheered you up!I was lookinhg at your photos at 3.30 am Nicola...couldnt sleep....they really cheered me up.Some lovely scenes along your railway walk, and loved your little captions....Fred and Stan look really well  and I always laugh when I
see Stans eyebrows...
It would be really nice to have another Derbyshire K9 walk. Just as long as the weather's not as bad as the last one in 2006!!! 13 yrs and 6 monthsWhat beautiful countryside - perhaps I should find a pet friendly hotel and do a long whippie walking weekend. ) How old is Fred?
Yes, it's just finding somewhere that's a good/safe place to let the dogs off to have a run.... :sweating: Lyme Park would be ideal, around the back of the park away from the deer..although it's in Cheshire, not Derbyshire.. :wacko:It would be really nice to have another Derbyshire K9 walk. No...I deliberately picked a Friday morning, so it was fairly family free, but I didn't bank on the the coach load of school kids on bikes I encountered. (w00t) Fred and Stan are used to cyclists though and know when to stand still or get out of the way...but you're right, a weekend walk with the dogs would definitely be hazardous off lead.Missed these ... gorgeous photos Nicola  Fred is looking as well for a chap of his age  We've walked the Tissington trail a few times in the past with friends who live near Buxton, but I'd never feel able to let the dogs off their leads ... far too many cyclists whizzing through. Looks like you were there on quite a quiet day
Sounds like a plan, Tiny can pretend to be a whippet. He'd have to stay on the lead though, cyclists scare him and he'd run off.Perhaps a Whippet Meet on the Tissington Trail could be arranged (and honourary whippets too of course).Brilliant photos, I keep meaning to take Tiny on to the Tissington Trail, it's not that far from us.

Count me in for a Derbyshire walk, only as long as its near a train station though (although my driving instructor is putting me in for my test soon so you never know :teehee: ).
I'm a cyclist and a dog walker so can see it from both sides! You see all sorts, from the people who are very considerate and gather their dogs up to let you past, to the people who think its ok to let their dog chase you, snapping at you heels
