getting a dog to drink?

I've been asked if I had any tips on getting a dog to drink. He's just had his boy's op (feeling very sorry for himself I expect) and not drinking much.

Dennis will drink a whole bowl of water if I put some milk in it! Even if it's the finest drop.

Does anyone have any other methods?

Misty doesn’t like to drink from a bowl indoors, but she will outside! If I want her to drink I use her flask which she loves for some reason.

thanks @Sezzy - yes Dennis will do the same! He'd rather drink from a manky old puddle than his water bowl!

When we had our water contamination problem the other week he was drinking Evian in his bowl

He has good taste! Misty loves a watering can too. She also seemed very put out when I put my water feature away for the winter, she seems to think it is some kind of elaborate dog drinking fountain

Absolutely, a little milk can help as long as the dog isn't lactose intolerant. Or a small amount of the brine from a can of fish, or make some beef broth. Wet food with added water helps get fluids in to them too.

Chicken broth - when Jasper was ill and wouldn't eat or drink, I boiled up a chicken carcass in a pan of water for about an hour, drained it, and gave him the liquid. He absolutely adored it! Then of course when he was up to solids I could tempt him with the cooked meat (but not the bones - never give cooked bones).

broth (wagg gravy) you can buy it online or at Pets At Home or you could use diluted carrot juice but broth you can use ox or gravy granules half a teaspoon

yes I know its the most tinyest amount of it... also they are good for tonight as they are at 'home'
