Twiggy is 12 now, and is very stiff in the mornings and when she gets up after a long rest. Sometimes she gives a shriek with the pain. I'm going to get the vet to check her again, though last time he said it was probably just arthritis due to her age.

I was thinking of giving her regular glucosamine as I read somewhere it was good for doggy arthritis but I'm not sure if I can give her the human form and if so, how much??

Any help much appreciated ! :))

you can buy it from the net and i have heard it is very good , most online petstores do it, we use it for the horses and have seen a difference. good luck :luck:

If you are buying Glucosamine, here is a link for the best supplier, they have various different strengths and combinations. They also have articles on various ailments which are very interesting and informative. Don't know that straight Glucosamine would be the best remedy for arthritis though

Healthspan

Aww poor Twiggy - sending her some extra :huggles: :huggles:

couldnt tell you the dog dosage...

but for me 1000mg a day is the difference between being signed off work and doing a manual job ...

wonderful stuff.....

I bellieve the oe with chondrotin is better though

For a whippet size dog I would give a loading dose for 4 - 6 weeks of 2 x 400mg Glucosamine tablets twice daily and then reduce to a maintenance dose of 2 x 4oomg Glucosamine daily for at least 6 months, if not a year.

Chondroitin and MSM both speed up the effectiveness of Glucosamine so if I am dosing a Whippet for the first time I would use the Healthspan's Glucosamine & Chondroitin plus MSM + Vit C tablets, then just use their Glucosamine 750 mg strength.

Chondroitin is the expensive ingredient and it is not necessary to have it in a high dosage, more is not better! Also you want to make sure it is MARINE chondroitin and not BOVINE

For an arthriticy dog I would use their Glucosamine + Omega 3 combo.

Thanks so much for all the help -particularly Dessie for details of the dosage. Also for the hugs sent her way, and link to Healthspan - they seem very reasonable.

Will be putting in an order tomorrow. Thanks again
