I do not know him personally, I have spoken to him on the phone on a couple of occasions. I put an ad in the local paper offering a loving home for a whippet or whippet x. None have come up in the local shelters so I thought id try an advert. Probably not the best idea
Think previous advice is very good here Sarah but only u can decide whether to go or not. The thing is, getting a new puppy is a big decision in itself and can bring its own stresses, but it should also be a very happy and exciting time for you. Therefore, think if you are havin doubts before even seeing the litter u are prob getting too stressed already.

What you want to see are healthy nice smelling friendly puppies with a healthy looking mom and dad. When discussing worming and flea products if he is responsible he will be using the kind of products available from a vets or show.

The kennel area where he is housing the puppies should be reasonably clean, with a large litter it is unreasonable to expect them to still be in the house beyond six weeks or there abouts. the mayhem and distruction of wall paper etc is too much.

They should be eating a quality food not something thats seven pound a sack.

if he is on the ball his kennel club documents will be back within a month of sending them on.It is not the actual written pedigree giving details of grandparents and parents etc that makes them kc registered it is a form from the kennel club with kennel club logo on it.

If the mother is being bred once a year this does not mean all is not well, my five year old bitch has had a litter once a year for the last three years and was always catching hares prior to her second season after her last litter so was mated again in the knoledge that she was up to fitness. She has reared strong healthy puppies and has remained in excellent health herself.

I hope you find a nice puppy.

WHY ?

I thought there was a KC reg about a 12 month period between litters ?

kennel club documents will be back within a month of sending them on

Mine took 8 days and that was with Crufts in between ;)

Nope not unless the breeder is a licensed breeder.  It did used to be a KC registration requirement for ALL breeders but not anymore.  :(

Well , thats a shame  one rule I thought the KC had got right and they chnage it

Thanks everyone for all your advice. If I am honest with myself, I don't have a good feeling about this breeder. I am visiting another animal shelter this weekend. I will keep you posted.

Saying that, I would worry the fact that he continually breed these two together , sounds to me like hes producing pups for CASH . best you look else where IMO

My thoughts exactly,

The bitch must just get over one litter and then end up in pup again

Sounds more like puppy farming to me

It's not a good idea visiting animal shelters then going to visit puppies. Just think of all the bugs etc there are in the animal shelters then you go and visit a litter of pups.

not the done thing in my opinion it's either one or the other

Dont worry ive listened to all your advice and I am not going to see this litter now. I dont want my money lining the pockets of a man that over breeds his dogs  Thank you so much for your comments I really wasnt sure untill I got your feedback. Im sure I will find the right dog soon :b
